This was originally just me, but Roavin and Derp wanted in on the action. Title changed because Cormac is a spoilsport.

Imki has selected us to serve as your first justices, and we want to ask you to vote in favor of confirming our appointment!

Since we don't have traditional elections or a campaigning period, there's not much of an opportunity to get to know people before you have to vote on them. So we wanted to post this thread to tell you all a little bit about ourselves and give you a chance to ask us any questions you might have.

As Imki said, I'm also known as Astarial and SillyString. I have a strong legislative and judicial background - I've written numerous laws in both Equilism and TNP, and I've authored several major court rulings in the latter as well. I also wrote the most recent version of TNP's Court Rules, which had previously been a long-winded headache of plagiarism from RL courts. The new version (though not that new anymore; it has lasted without amendment since 2014), in my opinion, is an excellent example of structure and flexibility. It covers criminal trial procedures, legislative reviews, appropriate judicial conduct, and declassification procedures.

I'm looking forward to helping set up Lazarus' inaugural court, and I hope you will confirm me. Please hit me with your questions, comments, or concerns - and don't shy away from making them tricky! I adore legal complexities. :wub:

 

Heyo, I'm Derps, otherwise known as wholly too many other things. I don't have too much to say, so I'll keep this short and sweet! As Imki noted, I'm not exactly the most judicially experienced, which would prove problematic in some circumstances, but I believe that that hurdle can be overcome with the guidance of Roavin and Asta, both highly competent individuals who I look forward to working with. In any case, I promise to do my best to get up to the standards this region deserves! Those standards, of course, include bad jokes and hilarious levels of corruption, both of which I'm very capable of providing ^.^ Either way, I'm up for any questions you might have, judicial-related or otherwise, so ask away!

 

Ohai! I'm Roavin, a girl with a fantastic beard. Most of you know me as that one dude from the South Pacific, and/or as that one dude formerly from the Wardens. I like military gameplay and I love legislating. I'm one of TSP's most active legislators, and - after spending nearly a year on it, the principal author of TSP's wonderful new Judicial Act, outlining court procedures and whatnot. I'm also a regular in the court there, submitting cases and writing amicus curiae briefs.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work on the court here. It's a new challenge! I get to work with the legendary Asta (who is supposed to be, and so far appears to be, awesome). I also get to work with the wonderful Derps, with whom I've exchanged snark (and bad puns) for most of my NationStates existance. I'd be honored to serve, if you will have me. AMA!

Is it legally acceptable to carry out a communist revolution on the weekends? As long as Imki is Party Chairman?

I have carefully combed through the Mandate, and it makes no mention whatsoever of the ownership of the means of production. However, the Mandate does lengthily expound upon the powers of the delegate, and I think those also need to be taken into account when considering the full question.

(1) The Delegate will serve as head of state, head of government, lawful WA Delegate, and the chief governing authority of Lazarus.
(2) The Delegate may not serve in any other office while serving as Delegate.

These clauses are clear: The delegate may serve only in the offices enumerated by the Mandate, and no others - and Party Chairman is not listed in the delegate's list of offices.

So I believe the answer to your question is:

1) It is legally acceptable to carry out a communist revolution at any time, not just on weekends.

2) The Delegate may not serve as Party Chairman. Imki is prohibited from holding this office until and unless she resigns the delegacy and a successor takes her spot.

Mostly comes from a habit of using a new, vaguely interesting nation when I move to a region, rather than just permutations on 'Derps'. And then being weird and using the nation name to sign up on the forums.

These questions are for all three of you:

Are you comfortable with Mandate 12 (Article V, Section 3) requiring that the Court's procedures be defined by law, or do you think that should be amended? If the latter, how do you think the Court's procedures should be defined?

On a related note, do any of the three of you plan to put forward Court procedures to be defined by law? Not that I think you necessarily should (or shouldn't), I'm just wondering because so far we haven't seen any movement from anyone to do that.

Do you think the Court should have jurisdiction over criminal matters or are you comfortable with the process established by Article II, Section 6 of Mandate 12?

Thanks for your answers and I'm glad to see three great nominees. I'm inclined to vote for you regardless of your answers to these questions, I'm just curious about your answers to them and I figured it would be good to have some substantive questions.
