The old one criminalises lying during your citizenship oath. The citizenship oath includes affirming that your application answers are true. As such, lying on a valid application is already explicitly a criminal offence.
What he meant was that if you are caught lying for any reason, it is currently punishable by law.
I agree that the current legislation on fraud’s definition is far too broad. Currently, you are breaking the law if you lie on something as silly as the RMB.
