Before I propose an official discussion for withdrawal of the APC, I'd like to know what the current consensus regarding the treaty is, and how we move forward. I encourage people here to post their thoughts regarding:

1. Withdrawing from the APC
2. Allowing current or former members of the NPO to attain citizenship
3. Anything else relevant

Thank you!

1) The treaty costs nothing to maintain, is there a specific reason to repeal it?
2) I am hesitant here. I think I’d be opposed at the moment, though.

2. Allowing current or former members of the NPO to attain citizenship

There are a few that the CLS is likely going to keep a ban on: Aleisyr, Pergamon, Svezjacael, Stujenske, and Feux

Which are mentioned here: https://nslazarus.com/showthread.php?tid=453

The rest would be case by case.

1. Only if we could prove beyond a doubt that we wouldn't get stabbed in the back after doing so. It's easy to be on friendly terms with individuals, but what about the temperament of the region as a whole? Can the majority of people, especially those in power, be trusted?
2. I'd have to agree with NR on this one. There are average Joes and Janes who have nothing to do with any of the mess. Then there are the real troublemakers likely to instigate stuff.

1. If there isn't an alliance anymore, and we are the only member of significants, I'd support leaving the treaty.

2. Let's use the Hostile Entities and Persons Act to ban all current members. Like Roger suggested, former members can be done case by case.

The APC treaty says:

The signatories will not maintain diplomatic, military, or cultural relations of any kind with the Pacific while it is governed by the New Pacific Order or any successor regime sanctioned by the New Pacific Order.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to negotiate an armistice with NPO (campaign promise) we'll have to do what is prohibited above. So we have to repeal the treaty.

Can anyone tell me any benefits to leaving the treaty?

It might sense to discuss treaties and potential diplomatic relations with regions like the NPO, after a vote has been held on ending on the war.

Then the region can go from there on how willing the region is to end the APC treaty. That is if the region wants diplomatic relations with the NPO at all after the war has ended of course.

Problem some might have with discussing it now is that we are still at war with the NPO, and as joWhatup mentioned it doesn't really cost us anything to continue it right now.

End of the war, the end of the treaty comes forthwith.

Would people here would prefer to vote to end the war before we discuss all of this?

I would rather hear both sides on ending the war before voting.

Seems irresponsible to do anything else.

That would make sense, as it would look a lot better to the other members of the treaty if a vote were held to end the war, and then we discussed withdrawal after that.

If a vote is held and the war continues, could we still pass a Hostile Entities and Persons Act, preventing their members from joining? It would be a good postwar stance that we could implement now.

I was not talking about the APC as it relates to the HE&P Act. I was suggesting that we use the HE&P Act against the NPO, even if the war continues and the APC remains in place, unless there is already a resolution? I could not find it in the library. It could be a good measure to keep if and when the war ends.

The assembly can revoke HEAP at any-time, if we end the war then we should have a separate vote on that.

Regarding the NPO War, which, I know, there is a lot of controversy about and it is basically a cold war now anyway, I have a question. This certainly isn't my place to ask, and it is likely a stupid question anyway, but here goes:

A lot of people are campaigning for the end of the war, which would likely break the APC and Osiris's trust. Some also want the war to go on as is, but it is turning into a pointless war. It is obvious that Lazarus needs and extra bit of leverage to end the war, and here is my idea on how to get that leverage, while making everybody happy in the process. Would it be possible to withdraw from the war under a very conditional "Cease-fire" treaty with NPO. The treaty would mostly be for show, and Lazarus would withdraw, saying that they want to devote more time and resources/people to defending Osiris. That way you don't get a bad rep for abandoning Osiris, but you actually get an even better rep for putting your own but on the line to help defend Osiris. This would get anti-war people happy because the war is technically over for us. We would still be keeping the APC by defending Osiris, and pro-war advocates would be happy because you can continue the war to whatever extent you choose, just through the front/jump point of Osiris.

The cease-fire agreement would basically state, under certain consequences, that the NPO and Lazarus may not attack the other unless they are defending their allies (see, it's worthless, right!)

To gain the leverage, we will make a big deal to NPO that we have used the time to grow and recuperate our army, also gaining powerful allies. This should be enough to get them off of our backs for a second, and we could relaunch the war whenever you want.

In other words, everyone is happy and you can still fight the war as much as you want to, if you want to.

If this does interest you and you have any questions, just shoot me a message on NSLazarus or a telegram to my nation (Viennaria) on Nationstates.

Thank You for your time,
Viennaria

p.s. I know I'm just a normal old shareholder with no influence, but I had this idea and felt that there was no harm in at least sharing it.
