On December 23, 2013, the People's Republic of Lazarus had just migrated from Zetaboards board to a new, premium Invisionpower board. This move marked a turning point in the PRL's history, and the true start of its overall apex. It was also the beginning of a major aesthetic overhaul, where the Cultural Cadre and I dedicated a whole week to creating new, high-end graphics for the region.
One thing we could never figure out, however, was how to animate flags. For the first two months of the PRL, the only flag emoticon on the forum was this:
The People, of course, were unprepared to accept a static flag emoticon -- it was a blemish to their community's presentation, and therefore also to its resourcefulness, competency, and dedication. Even the smallest details were of the utmost importance! Thus, I endeavored to find someone who could animate our emoticon. For this purpose, I turned to Tweedy -- The West Pacific's graphics extraordinaire. Who I now share the distinction of being DoS with.
I had few previous interactions with Tweedy, and thus did not know how he would receive an unprompted graphics request. For whatever reason, I decided that my best move was to pose my request in poem form.
Tweedy was happy to fulfill the request, and I suspect that the poem was completely unnecessary. His brilliant work became a small but highly valued contribution to the contemporary aesthetic. I stumbled across the conversation today and thought I'd share it.
