[Discussion] Assembly Procedure Act Amendment (September 2018)

On the contrary, good sir, if we allow for an exhaustive list, people will have a palate of ways to choose from. But only those in the law count. In my draft, if the law indicates that you cannot vote "heck yeah", then you cannot. Simple as that. You may select from a plethora of forms to vote in favour, but if you select something else, your efforts are foiled. Allowing for a list of options, whilst not allowing any funny business. That is what I intended with this long list.

If we stick with only one, it should be Aye/Nay/Abstain. People are used to that, which means even if we put something else in the procedures, we're still going to get people casting votes of Aye/Nay/Abstain because they haven't read the procedures and those are the standard votes pretty much everywhere. So yeah, if we're going with just one option, let's keep the status quo.

I appreciate where Sheepshape is coming from, the synonym thing was maybe not the best idea. But I don't think a list of options for each kind of vote will cause trouble. It's pretty simple really; you pick something from the list or your vote isn't valid. There's no argument over a smiley face, that's just an invalid vote.

"Aye", "Nay" "For" "Against" and "Abstain" are known to people.
As such, those should be allowed. "Against" and "For" come from the World Assembly, whilst "Aye" and "Nay" are usual denominations for offsite forum votes related to NS.
"Abstain" is pretty much universal.
As such, support for the simplified version.

I would go with Aye, For, Nay, Against, Abstain, Present.

Agree as well. I can draft that when I find the enthusiasm  :P

As I said, I have first hand knowledge that it does.

Take this as y'all saying "let's split up to search the creepy house" and me screaming at the television "noooooo can't you hear that creepy music playing noooooo".

But that doesn't make sense sorry.

If you say anything that isn't specifically allowed by the list, your vote is invalid. It's really quite simple yeah

Where is the problem?

I see the Speaker took the liberty of editing the title of this thread

Not sure that's necessary now. Seems we're moving over to a new thread now too.

And my post at the top of this page was sorta a question -- why was the thread title edited and was that really necessary? This was a discussion thread, I never made an actual bill proposal.
