  • The titan Anakainosis (Renewal, Ᾰ̓Νᾰκαίνωσῐς) is the ruling titan of the Lazarene Titanomachy (/ˌtaɪtəˈnɒməki/; Ancient Greek: Τιτανομαχία, romanized: Titanomakhía, lit. 'Titan battle'). The titan Anakainos (Renewal, Ᾰ̓Νᾰκαίνωσῐς) is otherwise referred to as "the time weaver" or the "divine one". This battle of the Titans, was a ten-year[1] series of battles fought in Ancient Lazarus, consisting of most of the Titans (the older generation of gods, based on Mount Lazarus) fighting against the Pretenders (the younger generations, who would try to siege Mount Lazarus) and their allies. This event is also known as the War of the Titans, Battle of the Titans, Battle of the Gods, or just the Titan War. The war was fought to decide which generation of gods would have dominion over the universe; it ended in victory for the Titanomachy gods and the defeat of the Pretender gods, who were cast into the underworld and punished with an eternity of labor.

Lazarenes of the Classical Age knew of several poems about the war between the pretender gods and many of the Titans. The dominant one, and the only one that has survived, is the Laziegony.

    Conflict among the Titanomachy (top)

Anarkhia (Anarchy, Ἀναρχίᾱ) and Agaper (Love) grew discontented with the state of the Titanomachy and worked with Gaia (Earth, Γαῖα, Γῆ) to bring forth new life in the form of the Pretender gods. Deletaes (Destroyer, Δηλητήρ) was angered by this development, and Euthymia (Serenity, Happiness, Peace) sought to bring peace to the Titanomachy by forging a compromise, where the Pretender gods would be left alone as long as they were content to not reside on Mount Lazarus. Though this peace was unlikely to last as the leader of the Pretenders Sadthos, the pretender god of judgement, plotted to make war on the Titanomachy, secretly aided by Anarkhia (Anarchy, Ἀναρχίᾱ). Nor was the Titanomachy to accept this compromise forever as Deletaes (Destroyer, Δηλητήρ) after hearing of a dark prophesy from Manteias (Prophecy, Μᾰντείᾱ) prepared for an inevitable battle with the Pretenders.

Defeat of the Pretender gods (top)

Sadthos, the pretender god of judgement, had decided that the titans were unworthy of ruling over the cosmos, as he felt they were vengeful and cruel to each other and to himself and the other pretender gods. He sought to overthrow the Titanomachy with the aid of Anarkhia (Anarchy, Ἀναρχίᾱ), who was offered the opportunity to cause chaos in the aid of cause. Sadthos (Judgement) planned to siege Mount Lazarus and imprison the titans in the underworld. Unknown to Sadthos the pretender god of judgement, Manteias the titan of prophecy, had already seen the possible fall of the titans in a vision, and Deletaes, the titan of destruction and war was preparing for battle.

Having decided it was time to strike, Sadthos, the pretender god of judgement, released the dark ones from the underworld imprisoned by the elder titan, gained the aid of the cyclopes, and worked with Anarkhia, the titan of anarchy and chaos, and drive panic and dissention between the other titans so they could not make a decision to act quickly. With the ground laid, Sadthos would lay siege to Mount Lazarus, trapping the titans on their fortress. The dark ones, corrupted spectres or lost souls of mortals, and spirits of fallen titans, climbed to reach the cliffs of Mount Lazarus. Anakainos, the elder titan had to focus his divine powers, and unleash his sword of destiny to hold the dark ones at bay, while Gaia, titan of the earth, would desperately use her powers to protect the mortal world from being corrupted by the dark one's presence.

Sadthos was confident that Anakainos' powers would wane and waited patiently for the right time to strike Mount Lazarus and defeat the titans. Deletaes, the titan of destruction and war, having been warned by means of prophesy, and expecting a siege, had laid a trap for Sadthos and his allies. Being aware of Anarkhia's treachery, Deletaes told Anarkhia, the titan of anarchy and chaos, of a narrow path off of Mount Lazarus, would the titans need to escape. Anarkhia then quickly told Sadthos, who then marched his pretender gods up the path, prepared to take the titans by surprise with their attention pressed on dealing with the dark ones. Deletaes then unleashed his trap, and the spirits of honored mortal heroes held down the pretender gods by their feet, while showers of divine arrows rained down from the cliffs, from the bow of Manteias, the titan of prophecy and wisdom. Euthymia, the titan of serenity, happiness, peace, sent forth a mist to put Sadthos and his allies to sleep. Deletaes with aid of Manteias then chained the pretender gods to great burdens and imprisoned them in the underworld. Anakainos, the elder titan, now able to unleash the full force of his divine powers, cast the dark ones back into the underworld, sparing the mortal realms from corruption.

With the victorious titans secure in their position of authority in the cosmos, Anarkhia, the titan of anarchy and chaos, was made to make a penance by Anakainos, the elder titan, and rule over the underworld, forever guarding the pretender gods he had tried to let free. Agaper, the titan of love, agreed to marry Deletaes, the titan of destruction and war. This was a compromise brokered by Manteias the titan of prophesy and Euthymia, the titan of serenity, happiness, and peace, who felt that Deletaes rage must be eased by a kinder soul, least Deletaes lose control and take anger out on the mortals and lesser beings or his fellow titans. Gaia, titan of the earth, would go into eternal sleep, waiting for the day that she would be needed again, allowing the others to do as they wished so long as they did not drive the mortals from her domain.

    Invocation

Let me begin to sing of the Muses of Lazarus, who abide on the great and holy Mount Lazarus. Around the deep-blue spring, with dainty feet, they dance, and around the altar of the elder titan of Anakainos.
5 They are nimble with their feet. Starting from there [the top of Lazarus], covered in plenty of mist [invisible],
10 they go about at night, sending forth a very beautiful voice, singing of Anakainos the time-weaver and Manteias, who walks about with braided hair, and the daughter of time-weaving Anakainos, Agaper, Euthymia and Deletaes who unleashes his sword,
15 and Hudaëe, the earth-holder and earth-shaker, and Sadthos with his devious plans, and the great Sun [Agaper] and the bright Moon [Euthymia],
20 and the Earth [Gaia] and the dark Night [Anarkhia], and the sacred genos of all the other immortals, who are forever.
22 [It was the Muses] who taught me, Hesiod, their beautiful song.
23 It happened when I was tending flocks of sheep in a valley of Helikon, that holy mountain.
24 And the very first thing that the titans said to me,
25 those Muses of Mount Lazarus, those daughters of Anakainos who weaves the time, was this wording [mūthos]:
26 "Shepherds camping in the fields, base objects of reproach, mere bellies!
27 We know how to say many deceptive things looking like genuine [etuma] things,
28 but we also know how, whenever we wish it, to proclaim things that are true [alēthea]."
2 29 That is how they spoke, those daughters of great Anakainos, who have words [epea] that fit perfectly together,
30 and they gave me a scepter [skēptron], a branch of flourishing laurel,
31 having plucked it. And it was a wonder to behold. Then they breathed into me a voice [audē], 32 a godlike one, so that I may make glory [kleos] for things that will be and things that have been, 33 and then they told me to sing how the blessed ones [makares = the gods] were generated, the ones that are forever,
34 and that I should sing them [the Muses] first and last.

    The Muses

35 But why should I care about those things that keep going around an oak or a rock?
3 Listen! Let me begin with the Muses, who please Anakainos the father with their song, pleasing his great noos as he abides in Lazarus. They tell of things that are, that will be, and that were before, having their words fitted together as they sound forth. And their voice pours forth without ever being worn down,
40 coming sweetly from their mouths. Glad is the palace of Anakainos the divine-one over the delicate voice of the titanesses which reaches far and wide. It echoes against the peaks of snowy Lazarus and the abodes of the immortals. And they [the Muses] send forth an immortal voice as they give kleos first to the genos of the titans, a matter of reverence,
45 starting from the beginning, telling about who were generated from Earth [Gaia] and the vast Sky [Aer], and what gods, givers of good things, were born from them. Next, they [the Muses] sing of Anakainos, father of titans and men, both when they begin and when they end their song. They sing how much he is the most important of the titans and the greatest in power.
50 Then again, they sing of the genos of men and of the strong Giants, thus pleasing the noos of Anakainos, who abides in Lazarus.

They are the Lazarene Muses, daughters of time-weaving Anakainos. They were born in Pydniri. The father was Anakainos. Their mother, who mated with him, was Euthymia [Serenity], who rules over the heights.
55 They were born to be the forgetting of misfortunes and the cessation of worries. For nine nights did Anakainos the Planner lie coupled with their mother, entering her holy bed, remote from the immortals. When a year was up, and the seasons came round as the months were waning and the many days were coming to fulfillment,
60 she [Euthymia] gave birth to nine daughters, all like-minded, who have song on their minds, in their breast. They have a thūmos without worries. There they are, poised to descend from the topmost peak of snowy Lazarus. That is where they have their bright dancing-places and their beautiful abodes. Near them the Aer [Grace] and Agaper [Desire] have their abodes,
65 amidst festivities. And they [the Muses], sending forth a lovely voice, sing and make kleos for the norms [nomoi] and accustomed ways of all the immortals, as they send forth a lovely voice.

Anakainos, the elder titan of renewal and rebirth
    index.php

The hierarchy of the Titanomachy has Anakainos (Ᾰ̓Νᾰκαίνωσῐς), the elder titan of renewal at rebirth at the top, as he leads and organizes the cosmos. While Manteias, the titan of prophesy and wisdom, is the messenger of Anakainos and his most trusted advisor, and the patron titan of bookkeepers and librarians.

Euthymia, the titan of serenity, happiness and peace, has an uneasy relationship with Deletaes, titan of destruction and war, always alarmed by his urging of war upon the mortal realms. They are in frequent debate on Mount Lazarus, believing their path is the best for the mortal realms. Deletaes believing that war and conflict shapes the mortals into stronger and more capable beings, while Euthymia holds that order and obedience is the best way for mortals to live. Agaper, Deletaes' wife, often is required to mediate and quiet Deletaes' anger and rage.

While Anarkhia, the titan of anarchy and chaos, rules the underworld, still unhappy with the titans for their refusal to let the mortals live as they wish, and not play their lives. Anarkhia is often the patron of philosophers, artists, and musicians. Anarkhia plays Music in the underworld to comfort the spirits of the dead and to pass the time, till he is relieved of his burden of watching over the underworld should the mortal realms ever fall. Anarkhia seeks to make this time of judgement come ever closer.

Gaia, the final titan of the pantheon, is the sleeping titan, unwilling to get involved in the lives of mortals, but seeing herself as their protector.
