This award recognizes the organization that has been the most successful at keeping free regions free. Distinct from the Anarchotopia Award, this award is intended to recognize the organization that goes above and beyond to assist free regions in securing and protecting themselves before raids ever happen.

He's not an organization, but I nominate Tancerlo for writing the 'So you've been invaded...' dispatch, which tells regions how to keep themselves free and what to do if they fail. It has almost 7,000 reads and around 900 upvoters since being published 3 months ago.

I'll second Tancerlo, and point out that in an era in which the number of defender organizations is decreasing, some existing organizations have a small number of members, and defending is much more open and participatory rather than organizational, opening this category to individuals makes sense.

I'd be quite interested in opening this to individuals, perhaps thorugh a merger with another award, for next year

Hmm. Tancerlo's post is definitely an influential and helpful one that merits recognition. However, this award is designed to recognize an organization, and I'd like to keep that going. Though it is not officially eligible for the award, I will recognize Tancerlo in some form and we can discuss opening this award to individuals somehow for future Defender Awards. It's definitely a good idea since there are individuals that dedicate a lot of time endeavoring to keep free regions free.
