Lord Ravenclaw - Ask Me (Almost) Anything

In 2015 we had a fairly successful AMA where I was asked plenty of interesting things and it's been two years since that session where a lot has changed. In the interests of organisation, we've created a Google Form for questions to be submitted so I can ensure things are answered.

These don't need to just be about me, so feel free to ask about Alexandria or other places I'm involved - if I can answer it, I will. I can't share anything confidential or classified though, so please don't ask! Please feel free to post here when you've submitted a question.

Q: How do you separate your TNP personality from your KoA personality? - Drasnia

Hm, that's not a simple question. I'm pretty hard-line when it comes to conflicts of interest but there isn't any political relationship between KoA and TNP, beyond that of a forum/game embassy. There's definitely crossover between membership, but beyond that there isn't anything that would be a conflict of interest. KoA and TNP had negotiated a treaty in 2015 when SillyString was Delegate but as it wasn't presented to the RA in time, it has not been presented. We've just left it since there was never a perfect time for it. I dunno if TNP would even need a treaty with Alexandria in order for Alexandria to try and defend it, I'd say probably not given that McMasterdonia and I founded Alexandria and that we're both former Delegates of TNP. :P

From Duane:
In your opinion, what is the primary area where Alexandria or the community can improve on? How could it improve that subject?

Improving the political activity beyond just roleplay and ic/ooc chat, we have a robust divide between IC and OOC and can banter in either form, but while our political scene has slowed down a lot recently. Steps are being taken, particular by Atagait and co to revitalise and amend things and more people working in that would improve the outlook.

What are your thoughts on making tea without a kettle?

Microwaves were not made for this.

What's your opinion on Mos Eisley Cantina?

None. I don't follow Star Wars.

From Anonymous:
What is the future of Alexandria and its RP culture? Are there any interesting Story Arcs?

The 2016 Insurgency Storyline is up for a redo; the Insurgency saw the fall of Terenuthis and much of the central southern hinterlands get deluged by criminals as House Montresor was overthrown. House Holland rallied but were overran bar two, and House Denral(, later Dracoseir) took up the charge to liberate the South.

The Insurgency will give way to The Conclave, which is a religious - Flemingovian - RP which will decide the role of the Church in Alexandria and allow competing religious organisations. Also on-going at the moment is A Dance of Queens, which was related to Oathbreaker and A Fragile Peace (check the forums for information on those) where Hyacinth must take stock of her losses (her husband, and at least one son by this point).

Darkness Rising and The Sword of Faith will take place to the north of Alexandria in Albingia. Darkness Rising will involve Dragon Age related elements, including Darkspawn - this is being started by way of the Crown Court Trial against the Margrave of Leiden for dereliction of duty. The Sword of Faith doesn't have a set start time yet will involve the Queen of Alexandria (McMasterdonia/Hyacinth Ravenclaw) taking the steps they feel is necessary to protect Alexandria from those who wish them harm.

From Thomas Insaniac:
Why do you hate British regions so much?

Besides the fact none of them are British beyond the names used? Most of them use an Americanised, codified constitution - oh and lots of American spelling.

Would you support me in couping TNP?

Nope, as the third in the line of succession in the security council (second to GBM, third to Siwale), I'd be one of those with border control and looking to ban you.

From Anonymous:
"Regarding recent events that have rocked a great number of communities, how have you as both an influential player in NS and as an admin for several GCR and UCR forums been able to keep players that you are responsible for safe from harassment, both sexual and non-sexual, in nature?

What is the importance of creating a safe community for these players and how can individuals who run their own regions and forums do the same?"

I will consider an answer to this, and will not answer right now. You may find my post, The NationStates of Tomorrow, The Alexandria of Yesterday and the Kingdom of Today an interesting read relating to this.
