Greetings weary traveller, and welcome to Forest. Pull up a log, help yourself to berries and try not to annoy the soldier ants.

We are NationStates' foremost environmentalist region and a hub for issue writing and editing. As a pacifist region we have no military or interest in military roleplay, but we're active in the World Assembly and home to the annual photography competition (currently open for entries) and Ransium's Greenness Index (updated rankings about to published). We also have a flair for creative writing, vexillolgy and the development of in-character personae for our nations. This year we've been commended as a region and also had commendations for 3 of our residents - Zwangzug, Candlewhisper Archive and Ransium. We've also taken N-day (ironic, huh?) and the Zombie Apocalypse by storm, with top 5 finishes free of casualties/damage in both events.

Forest is large enough to be an active community but small enough to keep most of its activity on-site. We pride ourselves on having one of the best RMB communities anywhere, a blend of seriousness and fun where discussion ranges across current affairs, popular culture, game mechanics, WA voting, our Post an Account From Your Nation creative writing/RP feature, reflections on Life, the Universe and Everything, plus moments of sublime randomness. A balance between nations that are young and enthusiastic and those that are ancient and wise keeps us vital but grounded.

We don't focus much on regional government in that we don't have legislation other than our constitution. We aim to have enough government to serve the community but not so much that it smothers it. The head of government, called the Forest Keeper, is elected for a one year term and appoints a non-executive WA delegate and a team of regional officers. The current portfolios are culture, foreign affairs, roleplay and regional historian. For most decisions we're a direct democracy choosing our policies through regional polls. We have a reasonably small, select group of embassies and we try to maintain an active relationship with each of our allied regions.

So if that sounds good to you, why not pay us a visit (in person or via puppet) or talk to us about diplomatic relations? Go ahead - hug a tree today!
