It starts in two hours! I know Loft will be watching! I'm looking forward to it, and I'm glad the chief of the DNC stepped down. She needed to go. I knew she was not a nice person way before those emails came out, but I don't think that will have any impact on the election. EDIT: and the headline on CNN right now is "Russia meddling with the election?" Edited by Adytus, Jul 25 2016, 07:22 PM.

Don't like Clinton, Trump and Sanders. But my vote doesn't count anyway. If you want free and fair elections, it is near impossible under first past the post and a two party system. |

I'd wait until both conventions are done before looking at polls. |

First, vote. Always vote. A right not exercised is a right soon lost. Second, I haven't watched a convention since '88. They're all boring speeches and trite theatrics. Speaking of which, rent free, baby! |

I think I'll have to vote based upon justice nominations to come soon under the next President. The election is too important to waste a vote on a third party candidate. If Citizen's United is ever overturned, it'll be the first steps to killing off the two party system. |

Citizens United addresses the use of monies by all persons, including corporate persons, as free speech in political campaigns. The funding of campaign speech in the form of issue advocacy is in no way related to the number of major political parties. Whether Whigs or Tories, Republicans or Democrats, the two-party system arises naturally from the single member per district specification for the legislative branch in the United States Constitution. Once two parties emerge, they will of course also contest for the executive branch as well. A parliament, with more than one member from a district, would better address your concerns about a two party system.Three or four members per district would suffice to ensure a plethora of parties and a greater diversity of representation and platforms. It would also require significant coalition building in the legislative branch, with a small minority always capable of throwing a monkeywrench into the whole works. I suspect your concern lies more with corporate and wealthy individuals' influence of campaign and issue advocacy funding. In that case, overturning Citizens United by a Constitutional amendment as suggested by Hillary Clinton would be your best bet. Of course, even proposing such an amendment requires a two-thirds vote of both the House and the Senate, or two-thirds of the states legislatures, to go ahead. Ratification has an even higher bar at three quarters of the state legislatures or state conventions to approve. Congressmen already spend more time soliciting campaign funds than they do legislating. I just don't see them cutting off their nose to spite their face. The president, whoever he or she may be, can make political hay out of this issue all they want, but at the end of the day, they'll find no traction in either the federal or state legislatures to overturn Citizens United. >^,,^< [nation]Alunya[/nation] |
