Yep. I'm running for Sovereign. This is a list of unfrequently asked questions about my candidacy, because nobody could possibly have asked me any questions yet. If you have actual questions, please feel free to ask them in this thread. Just don't frequently ask them or I won't be able to answer, it would be against the rules. Are you serious? Yes, actually. If elected, which is an extremely remote possibility, I will do my job to the best of my ability and will do more than just appoint people and hope something happens. What could go wrong? Everything. Or nothing. One can never be entirely sure with me. Why are you running? Lazarus has been important to me since the NPO coup and my (limited) involvement in the resistance, and right now it looks like it could use someone active and actually interested in governing to serve as Sovereign. I am both active and actually interested in governing. Aren't you a raider? Won't you coup? Yep, I'm a raider. Regarding couping, whatever crappy track records I may have on other matters, I have never supported a coup against a Feeder or Sinker. I have opposed every coup that has been perpetrated against a Feeder or Sinker during my time in NationStates, including the NPO coup against Lazarus. There's no reason to believe I would coup and every reason to believe I wouldn't, but I know I won't convince anyone who is predisposed to thinking I'm bad news, so that's all I have to say on the matter. But won't you mess up our defender foreign policy? One thing I've learned from my prior experience in government is that foreign affairs operates more smoothly when there's regional consensus and not one person calling the shots. Any foreign affairs issue that arises, if I'm elected, will be brought before the Assembly for discussion, and I will implement the consensus that emerges from that discussion with the mandate of the Assembly. This is also an excellent way, beyond legislating, to create Assembly activity. Why not discuss embassy requests instead of the Sovereign just stamping them approved? Why not discuss new embassies instead of the Sovereign just deciding to request it? Discussion creates activity and activity is what Lazarus needs. My foreign policy will, essentially, be your foreign policy. But what about the LLA? I will appoint a competent and active defender as Grand Commandant and then I won't touch the LLA further, which I think is a great policy for any Sovereign, defender or otherwise, to pursue. I will only be involved with the LLA if there is a crisis in Lazarus or in an allied Feeder or Sinker region that requires my hands on input, and I will be more than willing to use my formidable experience as a former defender, as well as my significant counter-coup expertise, for the benefit of the LLA under those very limited circumstances. Otherwise, the LLA will function with a license to do what it has always done without any intervention from me. The Grand Commandant will only hear from me if he or she, or the LLA overall, is inactive. And citizenship? I will veto any citizenship application that seems at all controversial so that it can go to an override vote in the Assembly, regardless of my personal feelings about it, which will be expressed during the Assembly discussion for the Assembly's consideration. Democracy! What are your plans for culture? I would, first of all, like to continue everything that has worked thus far. Why fix what isn't broken? While I'm not much of an ideas guy when it comes to culture, I will be appointing a Minister Steward who is, and what I am good at is participating and encouraging others to participate when others come up with something fun to do. I have one of the higher post counts on this new forum as it is, and I'll be constantly keeping forum threads active and encouraging people to participate. Any other plans? With all due respect to the current Court, and recognizing that they do have lives, it is nonetheless wholly unacceptable that we are still waiting for a verdict regarding the worst crimes committed against Lazarus in recent memory. From a justice standpoint, it is also wholly unacceptable that the accused are still waiting. The entire purpose of our unique judicial system was to avoid this kind of gridlock and it needs to come to an end. If the current Justices can't do what they've been appointed to do, everyone would understand that, but the appropriate course of action is to say so and resign. If elected, I will ask for the resignation of the entire Court, with my election as proof of popular mandate for their resignations. If they refuse to resign, I will seek their recall unless their activity resumes. I will then seek to replace them with Judges who will be more active. Why should I vote for you? I'm the only candidate in this election, thus far, with experience in Feeder and Sinker government. I'm the only candidate in this election, thus far, committed to active governance rather than passive oversight. I'm the only candidate in this election, thus far, committed to an unprecedented level of democratic consultation in regional government. Those seem like pretty good reasons to me, and if you agree, I ask for your vote. If not, that's fine too. Best of luck to my fellow candidates and, again, please feel free to ask any questions of me here in this thread. Edited by Cormac, Dec 20 2015, 10:18 PM.

So um... Where's your WA currently? (I've lost track..) |

It's currently supporting a raid. Obviously if I win the election, or look like I might, it will be here instead. Another good reason to vote for me: One less raider on the field. |

What are your thoughts on reestablishing relations with the Pacific? |

Well, I'll start out by reaffirming that foreign affairs decisions will be made after discussion in the Assembly, with the Assembly's consensus being what I would implement as policy. That said, my own personal view is that the NPO's recent apology for actions against Lazarus as well as other regions and individuals was an unexpected but welcome step in the right direction. Nonetheless, I think we need to see those words backed up by significant concrete action over a significant period of time before exploring the reopening of relations. So I would not personally be in favor of reopening relations at any point during the next Sovereign term, but again, if the Assembly felt otherwise then I would implement the Assembly consensus rather than my own view. |

How do you plan to increase forum activity/get more people to join the forums? |

The key to this is good advertising without seeming like we're nagging, I think. I would like to send weekly regional telegrams with news about events and activities happening on the forum, and bring up stuff we're doing on the forum on the RMB. I also want to keep the in-game region active and fun, especially for those who are active in-game and not interested in joining the forum. Some ideas I have for that are a weekly RMB discussion topic, a weekly RMB karaoke event on Saturdays (shamelessly stolen from TWP), and creative use of polls which is something we've already been doing in the past and should continue. What kind of relationship will you share with the Grandee Secretary? |

A cooperative one, for sure. I would want the Grandee Secretary actively involved in the government, because (s)he would become Sovereign if the office becomes vacant and should be as prepared for that as possible, and because it's always good to have another elected official weighing in on important matters. |

There's no way you can mess with the LLA's defender policy It's enshrined in the Mandate IIRC Edited by Lake Flotillas, Dec 28 2015, 04:21 PM.
