Hello everyone, I'm Benevolent Thomas and I'd like to be Grandee Secretary of Lazarus. Unlike other potential candidates, I believe that most of you know me or at least have the gist of what I'm all about. Rather than regurgitate all the boring crap that I'm asked to share time and time again, I'd rather have you address me directly. What would you like to know? Ask Me Anything! |

Cormac has experience leading a feeder and a respectable tenure doing so. What would you say makes you better suited to being GS than him? |

If you'd call that tenure respectable... He may have a history of being delegate of a Sinker, which was mired with internal drama, poor foreign affairs and Imperialist meddling, but I've got something a bit close to that and more positive. I was delegate of NS' largest UCR and am considered (by outsiders, to be fair) to have been their best delegate in the past few years. Hell, I'm one of the people responsible for putting 10KI back on the map again in terms of Foreign Affairs (and defending). I've also been a big shot in a sinker for a few months now have yet to really eff up. I don't think its so hard that only those who have done it before are competent enough to do it. Edit: I feel like I should mention that I believe Cormac got dealt a shitty hand in Osiris. I don't hold him personally accountable for why Osiris totally sucked back in the day. Its just that experience like his is less favorable than an ambitious fresh face, in my honest opinion. Edited by Benevolent Thomas, Aug 7 2015, 02:02 AM.

Haha, noted. On an equally important question, if you were given an opportunity to choose between unlimited fairy floss + free dental or owning a Shar Pei, which would you choose? |

I'll have to go with the first option. That breed seems a little high-maintenance and anti-social for my tastes. While I think Cotton Candy sucks, I could go for the free dental care. As NationStates' most attractive gameplayer, I believe it is important to maintain a perfect smile in order to seduce bigameplayers into swinging my way for at least a while |

You've talked often about reform of the FRA, and it is a subject I know you are very passionate about. Do you feel that, as Vice Delegate of the organization's largest region, you would be in a better "bargaining" position, so to speak, and could more effectively argue for that reform? Another question I have may be for the benefit of the electorate moreso than myself. Can you give us a concise history of your time playing NationStates? |

I'm already in the Lazarene cabinet and quite at the center of things when it comes to defending, I don't think I could acquire any more leverage if I wanted to. My History I started playing NS in 2011. Back then I was a roleplayer in a large founderless region. R/D came to my attention during the invasion of Region of Reunited Muslim States in 2012. I saw what unfolded there and wanted to help prevent that same fate from happening to other regions (I can't quite remember when the invasion of their successor region "RORMS" was. That may have been the one that got me interested in actually participating in R/D). I created Benevolent Thomas with the sole intention of moving to 10KI and joining TITO. This was summer 2012. While in 10KI I became a TITO Knight, a Senator, TITO Tactical Officer, and was the region's delegate during the summer of 2014. I would be banned from the region five months into my term by the founder because my loyalty to the region was called into question. Basically, I raged against the machine and lost, hard. I then created the region Fort Triumph with my good friends Land Filled With People, Deadeye Jack, Shizensky and Eist. The region itself never really kicked off, but its defender organization, Fort Triumph Marshall Service, was the most active and most successful during this time. Real life and work crept its way in around December 2014 and spared none of the founding members. I would CTE right around the same time as Jack in January. Land pulled me back into NS in the middle of February. For a few weeks upon my return, my only activity was defending. I grew to become very disappointed in what happened to defenderum in my few month absence from activity. In March I would found The Grey Wardens with Cormac Stark in reaction to defenderum's weakening state and growing apathy. This org would have its highlights, most notorious of which was the invasion of the invader region Madrigal with the Taijitu Citizens Militia. The fallout from this event would cause cracks in the org which would eventually end The Grey Wardens a few months later. I came to Lazarus during the coup and was even invited to participate in the Lazarus In Exile movement. I was still busy with work at the time, so I'd take a small role in the resistance. Basically just using my WA to help free the region. I was heavily involve with the post NLO Lazarus, helping to rebuild the community as well as welcoming in a whole new generation of Lazarenes. I thought it was very important that we maintained a very unique regional culture, but ditch the authoritarianism of the PRL. Once the rightful community of Lazarus was restored, Funkadelia asked me if I would like to be the then Internal Affairs Minister as I was more culturally driven than most of the new Lazarus. Although I'm still a relatively new face around here, I feel as if though I've left a bit of a mark on this region and am ready to continue serving it. Tl;dr: I'm a defender juggernaut who may have finally found a region to call home. |
