I know that we are working on this issue, though I think we need to work on how the Gazette functions from here on in. The way I see it, we need a least: 1. A sub forum for submissions by contributors, so contributors can submit their pieces. 2. A sub forum for opinion pieces to allow everyone to write, whether they are citizens or not. 3. A sub forum for editing issues. We also need to decide on: 1. The subjects included in every issue. 2. The default layout for issues and opinion pieces. 3. A graphic title and graphic logo. 4. Who will work on what part each issue. Finally, we need to decide how frequently we make issues i.e. once a week or every two weeks. For issues we send out, it really depends on how frequent ambassadors can update. It could be the case that we could finish an issue a week, and ambassadors only have the time or ability to send out two issues a month. So 2-3 issues could end up being internal issues for Lazarus. But this I would say is a good thing, as asking writers to wait ages to submit can kill off activity of a news agency or newspaper. Edited by New Rogernomics, Aug 1 2015, 06:06 AM.

I HAVE CHORTLES!

I would say every 2 weeks. A lot does not always happen in a week. Although we could release biweekly filler issues (opinion pieces, satire, political cartoons, etc) in between the weeks we release issues with the more serious pieces. Editing should be done either by the editor, assistant editor or other designated person(s). The stories that will be included should also be decided by the editor or assistant editor. Layout can be determined by trial and error. Who writes what should be determined by either a volunteer basis or by who suggested the story. Maybe some combination of the two. That's my opinion anyways. |

Without a default layout you end up with most issues having different formats, and doesn't encourage reader loyalty. That's whether it is a publication like the Washington Post, CNN, BBC, etc or a small end publication like a newsletter. But not sure whether you mean, how articles are ordered in an issue or subject/titles/txt size etc which van be trial and error. Opinion pieces aren't less valuable or less serious, so if they are good enough they should be included in the Gazette, can think of many instances where opinion pieces really add to a publication: - Well respected NS'er who is not a citizen has a story to share. - Longtime citizens or residents that don't want to join the Gazette, but want to share a story. - LLA, FRA, or another organization has a story, but it might be negative or positive globally i.e. an issue attacks raiders/invader ideology or another group/region, so it couldn't be released without being disassociated with the Gazette. - Someone who is part of an organization or region that is raider/invader, writes a good piece they want to share. Again, it couldn't be released without being dis-associated with the Gazette. - Someone critizes how the game is run, or someone or something important in the game,.But because it could be taken the wrong way it would mean it could not be published without being disassociated with the Gazette. - And so on, Plenty of situations where serious or controversial pieces would have to be excluded, if they weren't disclaimered as opinion pieces. Though it would be up to the editor what is 'too much' for the Gazette, as obviously some pieces could be too inflammatory to share. |
