Wintreath's government has two branches: the Monarchy (executive) and the Storting (legislature), and the government is set up so they can conduct their affairs with a minimum of interference with each other, as opposed to a checks and balances system. For example, the Monarchy has complete authority on foreign affairs (minus treaties), the military, matters of the Executive, and familial houses. The Storting, which is split into two chambers, has authority on a number of other matters, but specifically Citizenship policy and the code of laws. The justice system is currently in dispute, as detailed in our last Orendi dispatch. It's meant for the Storting to double as a justice system, with people from it being selected at random to serve on juries, but the system has some bugs and loopholes...for example, the Storting can ignore a filed case without considering to accept or not accept it. There's still many opinions on how to reform that system, but fortunately we haven't really needed to use it before, so it's more a matter of designing a system that works better than something we urgently need.
