Considering that Communism has never actually been implemented anywhere on scale larger than that of a town/kibbutz/commune, Marxism cannot be considered a failure. A distinction has to be made between Communism as conceived by Marx and Engels and the debased totalitarianism that was Bolshevikism and the ideologies it spawned.
