Confused on terms or ideas? Start here!; Ask questions regarding the convention

Since we will very likely have people new to both the region or to NationStates constitutions, I would like this thread to be a place for people to ask and answer questions on terminology or concepts, either about constitutions in general or NationStates specific topics. We want this convention to be inclusive to the regional community, and its important that we all understand what discussions are taking place

A few terms I've noticed used:

Open Legislature: All citizens are able to vote and participate in the legislature. In NationStates this is usually defined as anyone who applies for citizenship on the regional forum, sometimes with some minimum requirement of posts or time before one can join. This contrasts with an Elected Legislature which sees the citizenry regularly vote on representatives who do the voting. It is possible to have a hybrid of the two using a two-house legislature.

Alignment: In NationStates, Alignment is usually used to refer to a region's military, or more broadly foreign policy, stance. Two ommon alignments include Defender (the alignment followed by the People's Republic of Lazarus), which advocates actively defending regions from foreign invasion, Raider, whose primary military activity revolves around capturing or tagging regions for conquest of run. A number of other alignments exist between, or perhaps even outside, of these two (though their definitions are often controversial and I don't want to try a hand at defining them), and it is entirely legitimate not to have an alignment.

Endorsee: Someone designated by the regional government as an individual other than the regional delegate who members in the region should endorse. This is done for the purposes of security so that there can be multiple high-influence nations in the region, making it more difficult for a couper to establish complete control.
