Before I get on with my block of text, let me make one thing clear first; I don't intend to win this election or even make any significant headway into the vote. I'm mostly just doing this to raise awareness for some issues I care about and to make people talk about them. So come election day, go vote for Funk or CoS or Cam, all amazing people who I have full faith to bring positive change in, not me. So anyways, on with the speech thing. So the People's Republic of Lazarus has proudly stood for over a year. Through the storm of naysayers and reactionaries that have constantly threatened us, we survived and prospered. Last week, someone we put our trust into, believing that he would wholeheartedly work in favour of our community and revolution, betrayed this trust and handed over the keys of the region to foreign traitors in the form of the New Pacific Order and their cronies. We were blinded by our trust and loyalty, and our greatest strength proved to also be a weakness. What this demonstrates, I believe, is that unquestionable loyalty to authority is not something that we should consider 'good', and that our People's Republic should work towards eradicating this form of cult of personality. I think that time has come to face the skeleton in the closet, the adoption of a democratic system in Lazarus that follows separation of powers and the principle of parliamentary/legislative supremacy is something that we should try to do. Such a system would truly bring power to the people and would hold the chairman and State Council accountable to the people they serve. While some may consider this to be reactionary and contrary to the ideals of the People's Republic, I disagree. I think that as a People's Republic, our government is ultimately the voice of the people, and so we should increase democratic participation as much as we can. The people's democratic dictatorship has served its purpose, and we should move forward to seek a new system. And hey, if we don't try, we'll never know, right?
