Many people who were not previously in Lazarus or part of the Peoples' Republic of Lazarus are wishing to join the region now. Should we let them in and grant them citizenship despite never being in the region before? |

Allies and friends can (and should) be just as helpful to the region as citizens. The correct way to show solidarity with the exiled government of a region is to provide it with aid, not demand voting rights. You don't suddenly become a Lazarene due to disagreeing with the illegitimate regime's actions. The only way the "Underground State" won't die is through regaining control of the region. As unfortunate and blunt as that is, it is the truth. Without the recruitment base of the region, and once the fight for the region becomes futile, there simply isn't enough activity to sustain the alternative community. The alternative Osiran regime died out within days, and while there are ways in which it can be distinguished (we have far more international and native support), that'll eventually happen here too. The only way to combat this is to get new blood here on the forum, but that'll also help by giving us more Lazarene voices opposing the illegal occupation, challenging Stu and propping up the opposition. This is especially true of those able to be active on the RMB and with a WA. That is precisely why I suggested recruiting those in the region. |

I agree with Wintermoot. If we're going to cast ourselves as the free and inclusive government-in-exile, we shouldn't deny citizenship to newcomers that want to get involved. As long as they're not an obvious security threat, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed citizenship. |

The "Underground State" may have to survive a very long time to see this fight through. We are not talking about a coup that will be dealt with by dinner, we're talking about a conflict that could last months or even years. The only way for this movement to survive will be to remain sustainable, and the way to do that is by drawing in others, including foreigners, to want to be here as Citizens and to want to take on this fight as their own, and have a kick-ass good time on these forums in the meantime. We should welcome those from within the region, those from outside the region, and those that are new to NS if at all permissible. You are correct...you don't become a Lazarene due to disagreeing with the illegitimate regime's actions. You become one by having a nation in the region and applying for Citizenship. I hope that will change as little as possible. |

Whilst I respect Guy's opinion, I strongly disagree with it. There will always be those with questionable intent becoming involved in any conflict but there will also be those whose sympathies with 'Lazarus Underground' have drawn them to contribute, it would be very unwise to shut off Lazarus to this "new blood". As was previously mentioned, a viable community of nations is what is needed to sustain this movement and whilst it is necessary for pre-coup citizens to actively contribute in regaining control, the same can be said for new nations. |

I cannot deny that Wintermoot makes a valid point. I say let'em in. The support of the native community is what most gives us legitimacy and they deserve the chance to fight for their home too. |

I would never advocate for an outright denial of citizenship to people based on an arbitrary cut-off date or anything of the like. Rather, that you should be more deliberative when choosing who to grant citizenship to, especially at a time when the continued existence of the opposition as so fragile. My point was more that what's important for the Underground right now is to recruit nations currently in the region, through direct contact campaigns, RMB posts and the like. Any chance to reclaim the region will come from the natives of the region. |

A subforum, at the very least, should be created to serve as the go-to place for both Lazarenes and new members interested in our cause, where a definitive answer can be given to all questions asked. Right now, the RMB in Lazarus is cluttered with the questions of natives and the constant presence of foreign troops attempting to undermine our efforts to answer them effectively. |

In a situation like this there are trade offs to be made; most of the newly arrived will have benign intent and genuinely want to help, but some will either be plants or simply looking for power and influence. The question you have to ask is whether you can afford to turn away support when you need endorsements and people willing to serve on the front lines? |

I believe the best option here is to open it up to all those who wish to aid us, but make sure that those we do not know well stay at arms length from the planning, and the other types of plans. |

What about those who you know well, and not in a good way? *points to self* I want to help, of course, but I fear that I'm not up to standard in terms of trustworthiness. |
