Discussion regarding terms and election cycles

I am curious what everyone's take is regarding our last election cycle for the High Sepulchre.

Obviously we as a region can be doing better in terms of activity in general, but the question remains, is four seats going vacant all at the same time something we want to keep?

We have been deliberating some ideas on how we can make this more interesting and perhaps develop a way to have elections frequently, rotating the staff of members so that there are fresh faces instead of long term limits leading to elections that potentially don't even have enough candidates.

I am still thinking on the specifics on how this could work, but right now the idea is to have two Councillor seats be vacant every two months and still keeping our four seats leaving the other two to finish their four month term and then in another two months have their seats be vacant.

I am kind of typing this fast, so apologies if that isn't very clear, as I am running out of time! There are probably easier ways to explain it, but I think you get the jist.

This would only be a little wacky once starting it, as it would either make two of our current Councillor's current terms shortened or extended for two months either way, but there on everyone would still serve their four months.

Thoughts?

I'm all for this idea as it seems this would be the best way forward so we don't get a situation like the one we had recently with no voting at all.

I don't agree. I get that we want more activity so, I think we should have an all 4 councillor election every 2 months instead of 4 months, if you want to increase activity.

And for what Wymondham said about last elections, I don't think it will happen again as I see lots of new nations becoming citizens that'll want to be involved in Lazarus which means that most likely there will be more than 4 people running for High Sepulchre next time.

I don't think shorter term limits are a solution to the overall problem. This cycle would allow us to keep it four months, meaning people are actually able to make an impact instead of rush to do things, and still allows there to be less stagnation in the High Sepulchre at the same time.

I also think we should consider requirements for running for the High Sepulchre at some point. I don't think it's appropriate for someone who was made a Citizen maybe a few days before an election to be one of our next Councillors. The High Sepulchre is an important aspect of our government and the candidates shouldn't be taken lightly. That's a discussion for another thread though.

I suppose you have a point when you say it would allow people to make an impact instead of rushing things. However, assuming that most months are 30 days, wouldn't 60 days be enough to make an impact?

I definitely agree that we should have requirements for running for High Sepulchre, although, I wouldn't want the requirements too crazy. And that is a discussion for another thread like you said.

I am considering writing a formal proposal for this to lay it out clearly, but I'd like to hear what our other Councillors think as well.

I think the cycle of electing 2 seats every two months, while still having the term be 4 months, is a very good idea. It keeps things fresh and elections frequent, but not too frequent, while still allowing a High Sepulchre enough time to leave their mark.

Full support.

I am going to try to get a formal proposal done for this idea within the next few days that we can look-over.
