[DISCUSSION] Powers of the Convenor

I would like us to begin a discussion about giving the convenor the power to delay a vote as long as the discussion on a proposal is ongoing. Under our current laws, a vote would have to begin in as few as 72 hours, little time for compromise, debating and redrafting of a proposal. Giving the convenor this power would ensure that the people have as much time as possible to fully discuss a proposal and make sure they know they are doing the best thing for Lazarus with any piece of legislation.

I support this position. It's important to be sure that everyone knows the law and or discussion at hand. If others who have just seen, or do not fully understant the discussion being on the table, then they're questions and statments should then be given extra time should the convenor see fit to do so.

I will say, some things have different needs of debate time. Not everything needs a long debate time, others do. This leads to a need for someone who can control the debate length.
Yeah Doperland's probably the middle ground idea, that in my eyes is probably the best. We can just put the responsibility on the Convenor/ Deputies to make sure that debate-to-vote time is proper and appropriate for the situation.

Not sure how to fit it in with the Convenor-goes-missing law, but the idea of this I definitely support.

That's why Deputies are needed. :)

I know I'm new to Lazarus, and just coming back to Nationstates, but I have to agree with this Doperland person. One person in charge of debate length as well as their deputies can be an asset, but maybe provisions need to be put in place for the possibility that the Convener and his/her deputies are all gone around the same time? Just a thought.

Then you're a bloody fool, you have little support for this.

Have you met our citizens recently? They're the most inactive bunch in the GCR's unless there's drama around. I'm not waiting a month for some lazy shites to look at a topic.
