In a desperate attempt to salvage the human race, the United Nations spearheaded a space program, culminating with the launch of the Starship Unity in 2060. Ten thousand colonists and ship crew, under the leadership of Captain Schmidt, were launched on a course to Proxima Centauri, the Earth's closes stellar neighbor other than the Sun. In 2022, NASA and CNSA scientists had discovered a planet, thereafter named Chiron, that was extremely habitable to human colonization, and the United Nations had determined that Chiron was the prime target for a recolonization effort. After being placed in a cryogenic sleep at the start of the journey, forty years passed without incident to the ship or its crew. Despite the Unity being only days from planetfall, a malfunction in the core power of the ship awakens the crew early. As they attempt to repair the ship in preparation with planetfall, an unknown assassin kills Captain Schmidt in his office. Panic and confusion set in amongst the passengers of the ship. Several leaders of the crew are able to restore some sense of order, but it comes at the cost of the original UN mission. The colonists reorganize themselves into different groups, each following one of the leaders that had emerged prior. Now, being aligned not by nationality but by ideology, each faction takes control of one of the colony pods attached to the ship. The Unity, with its malfunctions and errors completely ignored, breaks apart in orbit around Chiron, now known simply as "Planet" to many colonists. The pods as well as the ship's resources and supplies are scattered across the surface of Planet and civilization begins to rebuild itself. Planet itself has its own unique attributes, much different to those of Earth. While the planet does have an oxygen environment and deep blue oceans, it also has mostly red vegetation, and was observed from Earth to have "rolling red plains, occasionally marred with mountains, volcanoes, and acres of a dense fungus-like growth." Upon closer inspection by colonists, there have some reports going around in a few of the colonies of strange worm-like organisms crawling around in the fields, although none of that has been substantiated. This story follows the struggle of the colonists to coexist, rebuild humanity, and face the yet unkown dangers of the new planet.

He is a pragmatist who believes the strongest way to handle a situation is with the adaptability, strength, and tactics the military taught him. He served in special forces, where he learned to adapt and survive to anything, and believes the success of this colonization is reliant on the ability to survive, and eventually thrive, through a regimented structure and military-esque order of command and duty delegation. His strong suits are also his weakness - without order and regimented control, his plans fall apart and adaption is difficult, but if he can maintain that order, he can adapt to almost anything.
