Security Council Resolution At Vote

Commend The Rejected Realms

A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation

Nominee: the Rejected Realms

Proposed by: Cepcecic Diplomacy

CONGRATULATING The Rejected Realms on achieving a stable and safe democracy without being able to issue bans and ejections, and for accepting nations with open arms.

RECOGNISING The Rejected Realms on having the oldest army of any region, the RRA (Rejected Realms Army). This army is a defender army and strives for interregional peace and prosperity.

ACKNOWLEDGING that The Rejected Realms is a diplomatic ally with many regions who works towards international peace. Without The Rejected Realms's efforts, progress towards international peace would have slowed down significantly.

THANKING The Rejected Realms for their assistance and leadership of several missions to liberate regions in distress including but not limited to:
- Japan, a small region with high influence.
- The South Pacific, one of the largest feeder regions.
- Hogwarts, another small region with high influence.
- Lazarus, a fellow defender region with extremely high influence.

APPLAUDING The Rejected Realms's successful defence of 10000 Islands in 2003. Despite 10000 Islands not being a defender region at the time, it's successful defence would eventually lead to it becoming one of the largest and most influential Defender regions in the world.

MOVED by The Rejected Realms's outstanding cultural diversity, with no limits to its endless array of different nations. This cultural diversity allows nations unfamiliar or new to the The Rejected Realms to participate in a vast plethora of activities, discussions, and the inclusion that many regions lack.

ESTABLISHING The Rejected Realms as a unique region due to its periodic regional newspaper (The Rejected Times), which documents and records events across Nationstates for everyone to read.

DISTINGUISHING The Rejected Realms for being a founder member of the ADN, and later being an influential member of the FRA. Their contributions kept the FRA running for many years after, with many of the Arch Chancellors of the FRA coming from The Rejected Realms.

APPALLED that The Rejected Realms has been underappreciated for so long, and has failed thus far to be noticed by the esteemed members of the World Assembly for its outstanding performance and resolve.

KNOWING that with the passage of this resolution that The Rejected Realms can only continue to strive for international peace and success.

HEREBY Commends The Rejected Realms for outstanding performance, resolve, diversity, and courage

I'm going to, with a heavy heart, have to vote AGAINST this proposal. I strongly support commending TRR, but this proposal is poorly-written and considers relatively tangential points (such as participating in the defense of XKI in 2003, even if I absolutely support commending Defender regions with a rich history of defending and liberating founderless regions) to be a critical part of the overarching argument supporting the commendation, given that it was granted its own section. I also think that noting "high influence" (especially because it seems to refer to the NS mechanic) as a part of the Commendation is another tangential, irrelevant point. Furthermore, noting that TRR is a unique region because of the Rejected Times is, in my opinion, flawed. While TRT is certainly one of if not the best NS newspapers currently in existence and should probably be a part of a commendation of TRR, numerous other GCRs and regions at least nominally maintain newspapers which makes the statement of the uniqueness of TRR flawed in my eyes. Thus, all of this leads to me to oppose the resolution.

I'll repost what I said on the forums:

TRR's worthy of a commendation, but the substance of this commendation does not give anywhere near due credit to the full history of TRR. I don't often like to vote on SC proposals based on their authors, but a half-researched proposal written by a WA multi who's banned from multiple regions would not serve to highlight TRR's achievements but rather to tarnish its appearance.

Firmly against.

As much as I like The Rejected Realms personally, I can't get on board with this. For a commendation proposal listing reasons that go back well over a decade, it's surprisingly short on unique justifications for commendation. Some of its points are so generic you could replace TRR with practically any large or defender region and they would still hold true, and other points can be attributed to the fact that TRR is a GCR with unique mechanics that for example promote regional stability.

I don't know much of TRR's history, so I can't say whether its commendable or not, but I can say that this text doesn't successfully make the case for it.

As much as I, along with a majority of the people here, like the Rejected Realms, the reasons listed are not great. The writer of the proposal has done poorly on making his case.

I am against the proposal.
