Let's Bring Lazarus Back.

Welcome, welcome!

I'm Ikania (that's pronounce Ih-khan-eea), but most people call me Ike. I'm running for Sovereign of Lazarus (Delegate) because I believe that with your help and my vision, we can forge a new, better and more relevant Lazarus. Our region has been swept to the sidelines of Gameplay for going on two years now. We haven't been relevant since the last coup, and before that we were still irrelevant. One of the focuses of my campaign is to craft a better foreign policy for Lazarus, one that gives us a place in GP and a role to play, as a thriving region with a vibrant culture, and a will to do good. I want to capitalize on our recently growing activity and take advantage of our new government structure to hammer out a solid lore for the Celestial Union, one more in touch with our Chinese-style roots.

More About Me

The Specifics

I've decided to give a brief summary of my platform in relevant areas, so you can get an overview of my plans. Find enclosed my agenda for our region. And most importantly, do please ask any questions you have! I can get as in-depth as you need on any of these issues.

Foreign & Military Policy

Culture and Integration

Please ask as many questions as you have, don't feel compelled to keep your mouth shut. I look forward to an exciting campaign and a lively vote. Cheers!

1. I would, of course, vote strongly against a condemnation of CAIN. I'm a vocal supporter of the coalition, and a participant in several operations, including the NSIA and Femdom Empire. They have been an overall boon for GP and NationStates as a whole, and has proven the power of the largest regions, united together to drive out the horrid ideology of fascism (or more specifically, Nazism) from the game. Again, let there be no safe quarter for the fascists. I do understand that there has been some backlash for the rather trigger happy nature of condemning regions, and I do support cleaning that up a little to clearly mark who is a Nazi, who is a collaborator and who is fine. But overall? Strong support. Oppose the resolution.

2. I don't think I can go quite as in depth here, having never known r3n personally aside from the usual pleasantries and some minor chats from years ago. However, having seen his career in action, having heard of his nature and knowing the kind of person he is, I don't have any qualms in supporting his commendation. He certainly is deserving. One must only look at the resolution for a detailed list of his accomplishments.

3. Strong support. I don't believe there is more qualified a person who has been here for such little a time as Brunhilde. Her assembly of the CAIN, as I mentioned earlier, is a marvelous feat of willpower and diplomacy. We have a lot to thank her for, and I emphatically reject the notion that she isn't worthy because she hasn't been here quite as long as some other bigwigs who haven't had their time in the spotlight yet. Brunhilde has earned every word of her commendation, which I would whole-heartedly vote for. And I can already guess what Kowassati's stance would be, given that he wrote it :P

4. For the most part, I believe the condemnation of raider organizations is a futile cycle either way. Condemnations now serve as almost a badge of honor, which makes them impossible to pass, because it's quite literally what the raiders want. Ultimately I have no strong feelings one way or the other on whether DEN deserved a condemnation or not, so I would defer to the quality of the writing and just make sure the resolution actually makes sense. And as NSA pointed out in the repeal text itself, "Condemn DEN" is poorly written and riddled with errors. Sad! So yes, I would support that repeal, but overall I don't really care.

5. & 6. These are liberations. There's little to say. Eternal Scholars was to block a fascist operation, so in that case I 100% support any liberation, and you can simply look to what I said earlier to find the justification. SLU was to undo an Invaders op, so it's just standard liberation procedure. I have no strong feelings on that, though I tend to vote for most liberations given that defenders deserve to play that card given how much of the underdog they've been in recent times. Also a bit of moral obligation.

7. After profuse apologies from the NPO and the establishment of in-game embassies between our regions, I can say with confidence that the NPO does not deserve their condemnation, and the repeal was perfectly appropriate. They always have their bad apples, most famously with their last Emperor, or the Senators who perpetrated the NLO coup. But I remain steady in my belief that we should put the past behind us, and seek to forge a friendship based around trust and good will, instead of being a secret puppet of theirs, or, in the waning days of the PRL, an overt puppet. Friendship in sovereignty, not vassalage. And on that philosophy, obviously I support the resolution.

Thanks for the question. It feels good to put words out sometimes. They kinda just flow.

Thank you for the answers. If I may, a couple follow-up questions:

In the case of Eternal Scholars, they were re-invaded while a repeal of the liberation was at vote. The question was more to do with your view on when is the appropriate time to repeal a liberation, if ever. And would you have supported a second liberation proposal if the repeal had gone through?

In SLU's case, the raiders drafted the proposal for the liberation. The natives also drafted a proposal around the same time, but it did not gain enough traction to reach quorum. The natives of SLU sent out a campaign spam against the liberation which went to vote. Which proposal would you have supported? Maybe both? How would you vote on a liberation which may offer praise to the raiders?

What are your thoughts on the Independence Manifesto and the general impact of "independent alignment" on the game?

I would've supported a second liberation, as tedious as that would be. The proper time to repeal a liberation is when a region is safely in the hands of natives- that means the proper amount of endorsements and influence required to hold the place. Obviously, Eternal Scholars did not have that.

I wish I remembered more about SLU, but I can't be faulted for having no stance, as I don't have the details. If you could provide more specifics about the situation, like the native-backed proposal and how you define praise to the raiders, I can answer your question more thoroughly.

On the latter topic, I find Independentism an interesting idea which has certainly defined portions of recent GP history. Given that not every region can be passionately raider or defender, Independence is a fine compromise which has suited several large regions well, namely Europeia, and I can personally attest to this having talked to many of their citizens. I definitely think we can foster a bit of this thought as we develop our new regional themes. I certainly wouldn't be averse to shifting away from official defenderism and towards a more independent mindset.
