Since I was unable to reply to the accusation made against myself and others by Lamb Stone in the illegitimate Celestial Inquisitorial Court, I thought I would lay out some simple points in my defence and in defence of what the government-in-exile and all those others sympathetic to it have been working towards all this time. This is, primarily, a character defence and, as such, I want to talk about myself for a moment. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not much of a gameplayer. I have served in the South Pacific in political roles, but always with the explicit intent of serving the region, helping the community in some way, building culture. I have deliberately steered clear of aspects of government like Foreign Affairs and Military Gameplay which are inherently tied into the GP scene. I have no interest in manipulating people, nor do I 'play' this 'game' to win personal influence and power. When I log on to NS, I do so primarily for three reasons: to chat to friends, to RP and to help other players. When I joined Lazarus during the CULT festival a few months ago, it was because I saw a region which had so much potential, which was full of awesome and inspiring players who really cared about their region and about building the culture and having fun. I found the aspects of Lazarus that I saw at the time so friendly and inviting as to be almost intoxicating and I realised that I didn't want to leave the region behind when the festival ended, but instead hoped to be part of the team building the region up along the lines of its theme, starting up roleplay and getting involved in the political side of things with the intent of making the region better for everyone who joined it. I quickly learned that all was not as it seemed. The awesome players I had met were still there, but many were uneasy and the atmosphere in the region beyond the festival subforum was unkind and unwelcoming. As the weeks went by I found I was distancing myself further and further from the regional forum and Discord server because of the actions of a few individuals, most notably (and centred around) Lamb and Funkadelia. Eventually, after a continued drift and a desire to avoid both of these individuals, I decided to quit the region but hoped to maintain the friendships I had made there. Those friendships are what brought me back, when I was asked, by three separate individuals, if I would return to help balance the numbers of those who cared about Lazarus as a region with its own culture and ethos against those who were flocking around Lamb and Funk. Incidentally, I list them in that order on purpose as even during my first stint in the region it was clear that Lamb was the true power in the region, in terms of his influence on others and the way he set the tone for much of the conversation. Even when it was Funk wielding the power, Lamb was still there hovering in the background like some phantasmagorical Rasputin figure (an image not helped by his current choice of avatar). Anyway, I wanted to help and so joined the group known as 'La Resistance' - admittedly, in a very minimal capacity, owing to time constraints and other commitments, but also owing to my own GP reticence. In many respects that is the entirety of the story and is the reason why the very inclusion of my name (and several others) on the list of the accused is so ludicrous, and yet what I have seen and what I have been a part of makes it very clear that the very nature of the accusation against the entire group and the propaganda that has been spread throughout the region is even more ridiculous. Those who have been named as a conspiracy to coup the region are those who care about that region and about those who wish to partake in all it has to offer, whilst those who are at this very moment still trying to claim that legitimacy and legality are on their side have done nothing but bully and intimidate anyone who is not in their pocket, causing the region to haemorrhage talent and interest. It is clear to me and to many others that, if all goes as Lamb and Funk have planned, that there will be nothing recognisable about the Lazarus they rule and, if that strange region manages to maintain it's life at all, it will nevertheless be a withered husk compared to what it could have been - and what I hope it still can be. I called this a defence, but I'm proud to have had my name on the list of the accused because it is only the so-called 'Accused' who can lead Lazarus out of this dark patch and into a new era of culture and prosperity. I stand by them, let my name continue to be read amongst them, and offer them what support I can. |
