 A REQUEST FROM EMPEROR HANS OF THE TEUTONIC UNION[1] To Elder Andrew of the The Free Land of Canton Valley It has come to my attention that our two nations while sharing a border are yet to share any formal ties. This is a matter that I am eager to remedy as I believe that our two nations have the potential to become close friends. In order to rectify this historic oversight I would request permission for a meeting between the two of us as well as Princess Camilla Kristensen of Mora[2]. I hope this meeting can create many formal ties between our nations and herald a brighter future for all our people. Should you be happy to host us I would be able to travel at your earliest conveniance, otherwise Princess Camilla is delighted to host us both in Uppsala at any point. I have written to each of my Archdeacons, and we are in concurrence that it is to the benefit of the Valley to establish stronger ties with our neighbors. I will make personal arrangements for both of you to arrive at CV International in Haywood at your earliest convenience, and, in the Cantonian tradition, we shall extend our full measure of hospitality to the both of you.   Emperor Hans Huber III and Princess Camilla of Mora"Good morning Your Imperial Majesty" Camilla said as she approached the Imperial jet and handed over her briefcase and bag to an Air Force steward who hurried away to store them onboard. "Your Holiness....Your Highness." the Emperor began only to see Camilla look disapprovingly "You know Camilla I believe you have more titles than even me" he laughed as the woman who controlled the Union's Principality closest to their hosts nation began climbing the aircraft steps. "I truly never know how to address you" It was strange, as well as being the Princess in charge of Mora one of the larger principalities she was also the spiritual leader of the Odinist faith within the Union and as such carried both royal and religious rank, something else that would make her prescence on this journey useful. "One day you'll figure it out" she teased as they sat down to begin what would be a reasonably short flight to their destination, so short that they'd barely had time to enjoy a quick breakfast onboard than they were beginning to land again. "So what do we know of this Canton Valley?" Camilla asked as she slipped her shoes back on ready to de-plane. "Very much a religious theocracy, very conservative Christian, think the Kaspar's but more extreme" the Kaspar royal family were well known to be the conservative christian faction of the Union and Camilla had often butted heads with them in royal council. "Seem like they want to embrace the world a little" he added. "Good, then you did right bring an Odinist in, we're pretty good at opening up the world" Camilla said in reference to Mora's rather violent and expansionist past, at least until they came into contact with the Teutonic people, but that had been 400 years ago now and the Morain's considered themselves just as much Unionist as anyone else. The aircraft door had now opened and the Princess stepped back allowing the Emperor to descend first. He waited at the foot of the stairs and allowed the Princess, dressed in a knee length skirt and heels to step down with his help. The pair walked towards their hosts with broad smiles. "It's a great pleasure to meet you" Hans said extending a hand to the welcoming committe, "I'm Emperor Hans Huber, and this is Her Highness, Holiness, something or other" he teased Camilla, "Princess Camilla of Mora, Head Gothi of the Teutonic Union and one of my closest advisors." "Simply Camilla will do" she reached past the Emperor offering her own hand. |

Elder Andrew stepped out onto the tarmac as the plane from the Union was landing, leisurely walking closer. As the plane came to a halt and the two foreign leaders disembarked, he mouthed silently to himself "Oh, Lord, the God of Israel, protect and help us your faithful servants. Amen." He strode up and met the two halfway, allowing them to introduce themselves. "Grace and peace to you both from God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome to Haywood, and to Canton Valley. I am Elder Andrew, leader spiritual and temporal of this fine nation," he greeted the two, shaking their hands respectively. "Now, I'm sure you've already noticed that the late summer is a bit hot," he said, referencing the ninety-degree weather, high humidity, and heat rolling up off the paved ground, "So may I suggest that we go ahead and get inside? I've got a car waiting to take us over to my own home; we figured you would enjoy that more than the spare room in the church." He gestured for the two to follow as he continued to talk. "Apologies for any offenses we might commit. Here in the Valley we don't quite have the..." he paused for a moment, considering his words. "The etiquette rules that you might have in your own country. Christ called us to be loving, not necessarily to be formal. 'Course, it wasn't very formal when he rode an ass into Jerusalem, I don't suppose. We don't mean disrespect, of course. Things are just...a little different here." After another leisurely walk back across the tarmac and through the small Haywood airport, he led the two of them to a waiting limousine, an antiquated model that happened to be the latest in Canton Valley, but was no doubt almost primitive to the visitors. "I apologize for the ride," Andrew said as soon as the car was in motion. "The airport isn't exactly in town, I reckon we've a good twenty minutes before we get into Haywood proper." Uneager to let an awkward silence develop, he decided it would be best to keep talking. "I thank you very much for coming out here to the Valley. The whole city is waiting for bated breath. Of course we naturally hope that we can forge a peaceful alliance between our nations...but I am also hoping that we can formalize some trade deals as well." |
