CENTRAL DESERT BLOOMS ![]() An ambitious project funded by the Harkonnen family has today come to fruition. Two years the Harkonnen Agricultural Enterprise (HAE) discovered several large aquaifers on the edge of the central desert and set about establishing a system of automatic water pumps, channels, solar panels and poly-tunnels. This summer the first crops have blossomed creating the sight of several large green circles in the desert. HAE hope that the success of this system can be replicated using both underground aquifers or sea water desalinisation. The HAE farm in the Central Desert has grown several different crops ranging from open field vegetables, grains and forage including eggplants, cabbage, figs, pomegranates, potatoes, squash, tomatoes and more. To irrigate the farm water is drawn up from the subterranean aquifer which is around 400 metres deep, and is irrigated to 78 hectares of circular fields using water nozzels on a pivoting ramp. Poly tunnels are also used to trap and conserve water and deal with the extreme temperatures the desert often experiences. The project was largely overseen by Julia Harkonnen the daughter of Duke Dogon Harkonnen, speaking while eating one of the first pomegranates grown there she said, "This kind of project is vital for Kaitaine, our home islands are largely desert with much of our population crowded round the edges, as such farmland is at a premium, much of our nations food has to be imported, this is a small step towards making that less likely. I believe that in several years time we will be able to feed the majority of the population this way. Furthermore we now have the technology to allow ourselves to export this capability to other areas of the world with similar issues." HAE later announced plans for a further sixteen of these farms to be set up in the parts of the Central Desert under their control, it is highly likely that the other three Holy families may also look to follow suit with Julia Harkonnen saying, "We would be happy to help the Atreides, Corrino and Fremen families do similar projects, of course at the right price." REVEREND MOTHER URGES FREMEN FAMILY TO DISCUSS MARRIAGE ![]() Reverend Mother Maryam, the nations highest religious authority has urged the Fremen Family to end speculation surrounding Duke Baldwin's Grand-son Charles. The 34 year old military officer is one of the nations most eligible bachelors and unlike many children from The Four Holy Families, has been permitted to pick his own wife. The Bene Gesserit are keen for Charles to marry soon and produce children as Reverend Mother Maryam believes, "Like any Fremen Charles is blessed by the Gods, it is his moral duty to father children, more the better, this is a matter I would see resolved sooner rather than later." The Reverend Mother didn't rule out assigning him a Honored Matres, one of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhoods selected women, to be his concubine, however a marriage within the three other families would be preferred. Duke Baldwin however has said there is no rush, "Charles serves Kaitaine and the Bene Gesserit loyally by defending our country, as such I have no issue in him waiting to marry the woman of his choice. Should the Reverend Mother however force our hand then so be it, I shall not refuse her wishes. Some believe the Reverend Mother will push for a marriage with Annelie Harkonnen, the 19 year old grand-daughter of the Duke Harkonnen, however such age gaps are not usually favoured by the Bene Gesserit. |
