THE THEOCRACY OF KIATAINE
Kaitaine

National Flag
Motto: Seek discipline and find your liberty.
BACKGROUND

Kaitaine was created in 1377 when a Holy Order known as the Bene Gesserit sought out a homeland for their faithful. They believed that a society created around four Holy families was needed in order to create a Messiah figure who would be called the Kwisatz Haderach, this person would bring permanent peace to the world and end all suffering. As such society in Kaitaine grew from these four ruling families, each attempting to create their own powerbase among the populance. This has seen the Atreides, Harkonnen, Corrino and Fremen families establish large social networks to enable them to exert power. From 1788 onwards it was agreed that Kaitaine would be ruled by a four person committee known as the Landsraad with a representative of each family. Modern Kiataine society still revolves around these families and their entourages who are seen as the wealthier classes while those not directly connected to them are generally not so well off.

THE BENE GESSERIT FAITH[1]

Posted Image

The Bene Gesserit (sometimes called the Sisterhood) faith is based on a belief that the Gods created certain humans with some attributes of the Gods. It also believes that one day it will be necessary for a supreme being to be born which will be a man that has all the power of the Gods. This man is referred to as the Kwisatz Haderach. This man shall lead the whole of humanity against a threat that would wipe out all life in the world, once successful he would reveal a new set of laws to humanity to lead them into a paradise upon Earth and ensure each person a place in the afterlife.

The Bene Gesserit faith believes that four families have been granted special insight into the Gods powers, these families are known as the Four Holy Houses and are the Atreides, Harkonnen, Corrino and Fremen families. The Bene Gesserit faith seeks to help these families realise their potential and bring about the creation of the Kwisatz Haderach. To do this the Bene Gesserit leadership has controlled the bloodlines of these families through inter-marriage in an attempt to breed a more godlike individual. They have also used the fact that all marriages in Kaitaine must be approved by the Sisterhood to ensure that any individual outside the four families who is believed to be favoured by the Gods is matched as perfectly as possible.

The Sisterhood is a lifelong commitment and people may join at any point, however many lower class families push daughters towards the Sisterhood as a way of increasing the families prestige as it opens many oppurtunities.

THE FOUR HOLY HOUSES

The Bene Gessirit recognise the Artredies, Harkonnen, Corrino and Fremen families as being exceptionally blessed. It is believed that the Kwisatz Haderach will be born into one of these families and as such they have been many arranged marriages between the four of them. While in Kaitaine there are numerous other noble families it is these four and their extended families that enjoy much of the prestige.

The government is run by a tribunal of the four Dukedoms.

GOVERMENT

The Theocracy is headed by the Reverend Mother, the head of the Bene Gesserit faith, while she is the figurehead of the nation she has very little power politically. Her only political power comes in the form of having the deciding vote should the Four Holy Houses fail to reach a majority decision on legislation. The Reverend Mother is also the final place of appeal for people sentenced to death.

The government is based in Gidi Prime House, a large sandstone palace built in the 16th Century by a partnership of the families. Each of the four families maintain accommodation suites and a staff at the Gidi Prime House and it is used to house visiting representatives.

THE REVEREND MOTHER

REVEREND MOTHER MIRYAM

Born in 1966 Miryam became the Reverend Mother in 2015 following the death of her predecessor Glorianna. She was selected after voting by the Sisterhood receiving 62% of the vote after two rounds of voting. She joined the Sisterhood in 1970 and served some time in the Truthsayers before becoming Mother of a shrine on the edge of the desert. She is known to have had many visions which many believe show she has been selected by the Gods.

She is keen to see the nation expand beyond Kaitaine's borders in terms of its outlook as she believes that the nobility of Kaitaine may not provide all the necessary genetic diversity needed to bring about the birth of the Kwisatz Haderach. She is otherwise extremely Orthodox in her faith.

THE LANDSRAAD

This is the name given to the Council made up of the Four Holy Houses. They may draft and vote on legislation for the country, they also collect ideas from the Lower Landsraad and approve or disapprove those ideas. Should they fail to reach a majority they consult the Reverend Mother who casts the determining vote. The Landsraad usually features the four leaders of each Household however they may appoint anyone of their bloodline to sit in on their behalf.

THE LOWER LANDSRAAD

This is an advisory board made up of six members from each family. They work in a similar way to a Parliament but are appointed by the Head of each family. They may suggest laws and legislation and this is then voted on and presented to the Landsraad. Many of the seats in the Lower Landsraad are given to extended family members
