Parliament ratifies treaty with the Merchant Federation!

Both houses of Parliament approved the Trade Treaty with the Merchant Federation unanimously in a historic showing for the legislative body. The unanimous vote comes as the first of its kind in nearly half a century, with the last unanimous vote coming in the early 1970s on healthcare legislation. Grand Chancellor Sigmundr Arnsson called the move "a step in the right direction" for the Republic as the Arnsson administration continues to seek trade agreements with stable economies around Audaxia. The Trade Treaty was proposed by Elena Djine, the Merchant Federation's Vice Doge for Trade, and was seemingly signed on the spot, signing the treaty and sending it off to Parliament for ratification.

The unanimous vote to ratify the document marks a sharp shift in Uniformitarian politics, as Uniformitarian seems to be opening up its markets to the world at large. As the Treaty has been officially ratified by Parliament, large corporations in Uniformitarian are taking to the world market and making deals left and right, creating an almost immediate boost for the Republic's economy. As the world market is opened up into Uniformitarian, experts suggest that Uniformitarian exports, particularly in the fishing and food production industries will see more than a doubled increase in output and total profits for the next quarter.

Uniformitarian to accept Maddoman refugees and asylum seekers!

Refugees wait in line on a checkpoint at the Uniformitarian-Maddoman border

The Grand Chancellor signed off on Parliamentary measures today to accept refugees from Maddoma who might wish to resettle elsewhere away from the war-torn nation embroiled in conflict and scandal. Anyone also seeking political asylum who is not in Draznic Pact custody is also welcome in Uniformitarian, but must first be background checked and vetted for approval. Refugees will be allowed to cross the border at specified military checkpoints to ensure that a pouring in of refugees doesn't occur without the watchful eyes of the government. All Refugees must receive a refugee registration and identification papers, and must keep their government-issued ID on them at all times if they are 18 years of age or older. Refugees will be given temporary housing, food, water, and medical aid as needed. All male refugees of age will be required, however, to find work with the aid of the government. Plentiful jobs may be found in southern Uniformitarian in the dwarven manufacturing industry, in fisheries on the coast near Annúminas, and seasonal harvest work is available in the farms in Uniformitarian's central breadbasket region. Anyone, male or female, who wishes to serve as a member of the Uniformitarian Defense Forces will be given the fast track to citizenship upon the completion of basic training and one year of commendable service. College-age refugees may apply at any of Uniformitarian's public universities and receive full tuition-paying scholarships for an education, but these spots are very limited and those interested must apply to the school of their choice quickly before their chances pass. Any Maddoman scientists, mathematicians, engineers, or other scholarly citizens of note may receive preferential treatment for priority resettlement upon agreeing to work and research for the government. Refugees wishing to obtain Uniformitarian citizenship and settle within the country must take Uniformitarian history and tradition classes, and receive a satisfactory rating on their citizenship exam, which will test applicants on Uniformitarian history, culture, language, and customs. Upon receiving credit for the course and passing the exam, the applicant must pledge allegiance to Uniformitarian and her way of life, and then will be awarded citizenship status based on their merit.

This wide-sweeping resolution on refugees is seen as a chance to boost the Uniformitarian economy with new workers and taxpayers, and to lend the government possible new researchers and developers for the various sciences. The refugees are stated as to be "most welcome" within Uniformitarian, so long as they obey the laws of the country and are legally registered with the government and have their identification papers properly in order. Many are sceptical of this move, and only time will tell to see if it is beneficial...
