The Empire of Sherydan Population: 20,000,000 Capital City: Novaria Form of Government: Monarchy Emperor: Maximillian IV Legislative: Imperial Senate GDP: 229 Billion Civilization Overview Religion Historically, Sherydan was polytheistic. Each region had its own patron god or godess, each bringing their own blessings. These gods were historically assembled on the holy site of Maryus, in a pantheon of the gods. This holy site was a neutral meeting place for the competing regions, and was partially maintained by each region. The Empire of Sherydan currently worships the Emperor as God however, after the Desecration of Mauryus in 1312 AD. Desecration of Mauryus: Following Claudius III successful Unification of Sherydan, he was coronated at Mauryus. It was there where he demolished the pantheon and proclaimed himself the God Emperor of Sherydan, establishing a new temple dedicated to the worship of the Emperor. Environment For the most part, The Empire of Sherydan is dominated by rolling hills. To the Southeast is Lake Vetera, the site of the Emperor's Hanging Gardens Palace. The Western coastline is dominated by cliffs, however a few small ports exist. The natural harbor formed midway down the coastline, however, is much more favorable to shipping. While a large part of the empire is severely polluted by industry, the Emperor and many aristocratic families own large tracts of preserved land as private holdings. Culture The Culture of the Sherydan Empire can be most aptly compared to that of the Romans. The culture is historically brutal and dog-eat-dog, carrying over into many of their practices, most notably seen in business and politics. The Emperor is a great patron of the arts, using employing thousands of artists full time, mostly in creating of Imperial propoganda and vast projects in honor of the Emperor. Ideas The Sherydan were famous in the ancient world for their feats of engineering. Their greatest feat is the capital city of Noveria, which is actually constructed on Lake Vetera. Thus, the lake serves as a natural defense against attack.The Sherydan were also known for their brutal engineering of war equipment. The concept of a limited war is alien to the Sherydan, and thus the weapons used reflect that. Politics The Emperor, Maximillian III, holds all power in the kingdom. However, there is too much to manage for him to deal with all aspects of the day to day running of the empire. To solve this issue, two systems exist. The Imperial Senate is mostly responsible for the technicalities of imperial governance. Taxation, treaties, and minor laws are usually handled by the Imperial Senate. The Empire is also split up into multiple regions, each managed by an aristocracy closely tied to the emperor. In turn, these aristocrats are the CEOs of the Major corporations, which provide the major economic output of the Sherydan Empire. Economy As mentioned previously, the economy is dominated mostly by the major corporations under the control of the aristocracy. These mostly focus on heavy industry and finance. Arms sales make up the majority of Sherydan's international exports, along with heavy goods. The Sherydan are known for their ruthless business practices, who would easily sacrifice thousands of lives for the bottom line. Society For the most part, free Sherydanians are allowed to do what they wish as long as it does not go against the emperor. Crime is virtually nonexistent due to the omnipresent Imperiators, who keep the peace and stability within the Empire. Military 400,000 Total Personnel Listed Below are Combat and Support personnel.
