Tetrarch, DEN

Vladimir had taken a late flight down to the fortress city from his place in Hochburg, and arrived early in the morning, around 0300 hours. From the moment his plane touched down, he couldn't catch a single minute of precious sleep, and it showed a little on his face that morning. It was 0800 now, and he was on his third cup of coffee, attempting to withstand the exhaustion of a full two days without sleep. It had been a long few days, with the rise of their old neighbors, and the war planning. In fact, he would welcome this night. After they sent off the soldiers, hell, he could sleep as long as he wanted to. Unfortunately, he knew what today was going to be, and he dreaded it. He dreaded it with more than he could show, but he went through with it anyway. It was, after all, necessary.

In the backseat of the armored car next to him was the Division and Battalion commander, and both were quiet this morning. The Battalion commander had his hands in his pockets, and was dozing off as the car bumped along on the road to the airfield, his cap in his lap. On his right, the Division commander was looking through a clipboard, flipping the papers up and down while he read through the brief.

"Comrade Bard, I hope you realize that this is completely top secret, no?" Vladimir asked, drinking from his cup silently. "If anyone speaks a word of this, anyone, I'll personally have them subjected to a summary execution."

"Comrade Lenin, you do not have to worry about this at all. I will make sure nothing will leave." He replied, reassuring the Fuhrer, which also showed. "At any rate, most of our troops will only get the information a day before the operation."

"Very well. How's the 56th doing, comrade?" Vladimir asked, looking over at the Commissar, directly looking at the officer and nudging his shoulder. The man almost jumped up and looked around in confusion, and patted down his uniform. "Sleep well, comrade?"

"Sir? Oh yes, sir! Of course, comrade Fuhrer." He replied, obviously embarrassed. "What did you ask?"

"I asked how the 56th was doing?"

"Oh, sir, very well, comrade. They have been training dutily for over a month now, and they are more than ready to continue. We've been readying the aircraft for your use as well, sir." The Commissar replied. "Actually... why not ask them yourself, sir?"

Vladimir looked out the window as he said that, and watched the runway come into view as they got closer. On the runway, in fact, was a few aircraft and a massive battalion of airborne soldiers, all lined up and listening to the briefing.

"Well, well... maybe I shall.."

Landing Site Alpha One

"Captain! Bravo's landed, Charlie's on the way!" The radioman reported to Cato from behind the command dugout, still listening to his radio set. He had a larger radio, with a more powerful transmitter and receiver, able to encrypt messages, and act as a small ELINT system in the field.

"Roger that. Let's hold out for the next wave. I've got a shitty feeling about this..." Cato replied, and continued digging his fox hole in the ground with his entrenching shovel. Each shovelful of dirt reminded him how long he'd have to stay here, and each inch added to the mound in front of him added to his protection. In truth, he was grateful for this.

"Captain! We've got an issue! I've picked up a Gondorian transmission. They've deployed armor units in the area!" The radioman interjected, surprising the officer a little. Both of them swore, though one less visibly than the other, and Cato slid back a little to line up with the radioman. "I've got a general location on them. Orders?"

"Yes. Tell the platoons to get their ATGMs up and ready, and then call in air support. We've still got a few helicopters in the area. Tell them to load up on AT and napalm." Cato replied, and patted the platoon leader's back to send him off.

"Yes, sir, comrade Captain." The radioman replied, and switched the channel on the radio to a secure line to the airstrip. "Father Goose, Father Goose, this is LZ Alpha One, requesting immediate anti tank air support. Gondorian convoy en route. I repeat, Gondorian convoy en route. Engage and destroy."

"Roger that, Alpha One. Attack choppers on their way. Father Goose out.

*****

Four H-10 attack helicopters were loaded and powered up on the runway, and were immediately manned by their pilots. Three of them had Hellfire AT missiles, and the last one was all napalm and AA missiles. The four of them took off from the runway minutes later, and headed south to LZ Alpha One at full speed.

Franco-Tyskland, Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie Companies

The columns of men could be heard marching toward the city, each aware of his surroundings, knowing that the closer they got to the city, the faster that the fighting might come. Each soldier occasionally checked his weapons and ammo, just to make sure they were still there. The tanks rolled along in front of the companies, and spearheaded the convoy, their hulking engines being heard before they could be seen. The tank crews and gunners sat watchfully in their Merkavas, talking to one another about the mission ahead and what they thought of the Franco-Tysklandian-Namenian quagmire. They were of one people and one language, and yet had so much animosity for one another. This foreign land was cold and unforgiving, and its people even more so.

As the convoy headed for the border city, Alpha Company Commander Nanking Lao and Bravo Company Commander Keiji Jen spoke quietly as they say atop a rolling tank, pondering over the entirety of the situation.

"Keiji, this all seems to me to be what could start that World War everyone's been so worried about. People look at Japao and they think that it will all begin here, and yet the soldiers of the two opposing sides are set to meet here. We will more than likely be in grave danger if the Franco-Tysklandian reports are correct. I don't expect the socialists to simply send an expedition here...this will be the tip of a massive invasion. If Gondor is to truly save this nation from the Namenians, then we will have to send far more troops here than we have now. I only fear what the West will do once the war starts. I will not say if the war starts, because I just have that gut feeling. Keiji, do you feel it?"

Keiji looked at Nanking with fierce eyes and a grim demeanor. He unscrewed the top of his water canteen and took a small sip, sighing of refreshment.

"I feel it too, Nanking. But not as you do. I feel that we will have a great stand here in that city...

As soon as he said that, helicopter rotors could be heard roaring, and not too far off. The troops thought little of it for about 30 seconds, thinking that it was done Franco-Tysklandian helicopters patrolling the southern treeline. What they were soon to realize was that it wasn't coming from the south, but the north.

Keiji jumped off the side of the tank as the troops began readying their weapons, and he grabbed a pair of high power binoculars from a nearby private, and climbed to the top of the tank, where he could see what was in the air, and looked in the binoculars. He muttered a curse in Burnzibarian and handed them to Nanking, who also cursed when he saw the helicopters, although noticeably louder.

"Fucking hell, Nanking! It's the damn Namenians. They're landing troops in near the city and the goddamned Franco-Tysklandians aren't doing a thing about it! Fuck! We have to do something. We can't just let those helos land. They haven't landed yet. Use the stingers to shoot those fuckers down!!!"

"Fuck is right. We'll be firing the first shots if we do this, but those motherfuckers started this war when they sent troops across the border."

By now, the helicopters were in view of the troops, all of whom were alarmed. Even Charile Company Commander Cody Shephard, who had been sleeping in the back of a tank, was awake and alert.

Nanking stood on top of the tank, and yelled at the top of his lungs, barking orders.

"Stinger operators! Do you see those damn transport helicopters?! Those are NAMENIAN, and they are coming to invade our allies! Get a lock and shoot them down! We're at war, men light those goddamned commies up!"

The nearest few Stinger operators shouldered their launchers, and aimed down their sights. It took them a few seconds, but they achieved lock-on, and put their fingers on the trigger. They fired, and at least 6 individual missiles were in the air, using infared guidance to find their targets, rocketing through the air towards the Namenian helicopters.

The war had just begun.

Over Landing Zone Alpha One

"Father goose, choppers returning to base. Need a refueling. Over." The pilot of the fourth helicopter replied, looking back to see if anything had changed. He was happy that nothing had, but also, a little worried. They had just dropped off the second wave, and now had to return back to base for the third, but still... He looked out the window again, scanning the tree line just to be sure. Nothing could come from there, could it? After al- The pilot suddenly switched on his radio with all haste. He could see smoke trails from rockets in the distance, and he had to report it fast. "We've got smokers in the air! Smokers in the air!"

It was too late, though. The last helicopter erupted into flames as the first of the rockets detonated against it's hull, tearing through the light armor as if it was paper, and detonating the fuel tanks. Down she fell, like a burning meteorite to the ground, and skidded across the ground. Everyone knew there was no survivors of that one. The second helicopter attempted to maneuver, but was hit by shrapnel from another rocket, and began to spin wildly out of control from the detonation. Down she went as well, crashing into the forest and detonating among the trees. It was at this point that the rest of the helicopters began to wildly pop flares into the air, and maneuvered wildly as well as they could. Finally, a third helicopter was destroyed almost instantly as the rocket detonated inside the cockpit, killing everyone and putting the chopper into a spin to the ground.

"We've got hostile ground units, I repeat, we have hostile ground units!" The pilot shouted, and maneuvered as he shot off flares.

Near Gondorian enemy units

"Arm napalm and light them up!" The lead H-10 pilot ordered into his intercom as his helicopter flew almost within striking distance of the Gondorian troops. He armed his missiles and bombs, and launched two of his Hellfire AT missiles as soon as they got a lock. The two of them shot off at full speed, guided by their MMW radar to the tanks. As soon as the two launched, he pulled up and released his two napalm canisters into the enemy troops below. He roared with delight as the canisters detonated just above them, spreading out their liquid fire and engulfing a huge swath of land with their flames. "Whoooohooo! Let's go for another round, boys!"
