A Message to King Eldarion:

Per our recently signed alliance, General Taij Gorkum of the Khanate Golden Horde Land Component (KGH-LC) invites the Royal Army of Gondor to the first of many projected cooperative field exercises. The proposed location is within the southern province of Odessizka and will encompass an four-week long intensive aimed at familiarizing the Kingdom of Gondor's armed forces with the KGH Land Component's arms, equipment and strategic doctrines. As one of the geographically larger nations in Audaxia, the DIvine Khanate has traditionally relied heavily on a mixture of light and heavy cavalry to cover large swaths of land in short amounts of time. We have modified traditional strategic doctrine to suit the demands of twenty-first century warfare and as such have based the foundation of our standard operational procedure on the use of heavy armored spearheads paired with air assault tactics to force favorable circumstances on the battlefield and exploit weak points for breakthrough.

The First and Second Armored Divisions of the KGH-LC will be hosting this event with a full complement of Khanate armor and artillery. We hope that your Majesty finds it convenient to send a complement of Gondorian troops to participate in small-unit and large scale combined arms aimed towards forging professional camaraderie and operational effectiveness between our armed forces.

A Message to Brigadier General Zhao Gi-Lung:

The Gondorian Royal Army accepts the invitation of Los Vatican to participate in joint maneuvers in the southern province of Odessizka and hopes that more missions like this will come in the future. The Gondorian Royal Army is eager to learn all about the tactics, arms, and equipment used by the KGH Land Component. Gondor's military has recently finished a massive modernization project that has brought Gondor up to today's military standards for 21st century warfare. Gondor's armored components traditionally rely on a mix of medium and heavy cavalry to achieve their goals on the battlefield according to strategic doctrine in the most efficient way possible both timewise and kill count wise.

Gondor will send its own 1st and 2nd armored divisions with a complement of artillery to participate in the 4 week drills. As the alliance treaty States, Gondor's forces will act in conjunction with the Khanate Golden Horde to achieve a better understanding of each military's strengths and weaknesses in regards to prowess on the field of battle. The 1st Gondorian Special Forces division will also be coming as a supplementary force to the armor and artillery to simulate what happens when infantry follows armor in the mission area. The camaraderie of the two forces with one another as well as achieving harmony in working together is looked forward to.

- Maj. General Eradan Bromsson, Commander of the Gondorian Royal Army

OOC: Please note that the K-2 is an extremely advanced tank, and is in very limited production. The first and second armored divisions are some of the only units to have received such equipment. Gondor's main tank is the Israeli-made Merkava 4, but the K2s need more training.

Odessizka

Gondor’s arrival to the scene was treated with courtesy but notably devoid of superfluous pomp and circumstance. Even as Gondorian armor and trucks rolled past what seemed like an unending multitude of heavy canvass “ger” tents neatly lined in designated campsites for dozens of kilometers, the men of the Khan’s 1st Armored Division regarded the odd sight of foreign men, machines and equipment with little more than a few brief glances up from their work. The never-ending task of keeping their tanks up to standard would not be interrupted by anything short of a national crisis and Brigadier General Zhao Li-Kung had made it clear that any slack in their responsibilities would be punished with extreme prejudice.

The tankers, thus, were meticulous in their maintenance duties. Failure to ensure operational readiness of one of the Khan’s armored beasts often resulted in public scourging. Quite a few older veterans bore the marks of past mistakes on their backs and sides. More ‘serious’ offenses would be punished by harsher techniques - flaying in particular deterred many from mutiny and public castration was a favored ‘method’ for deterring rape in garrisoned regions.

“Enough.” Barked Zhao, waving off at one of his officers steadily applying the scourge to an boot private. The seventeen year old had been caught shirking off kitchen duty for his tank platoon, with whom he shared the olive drab canvass ger with. The offender’s entire tank company was in attendance, forming up in a semi-circle to witness their companion’s beating.

“Take the fool away. Our guests are arriving.”

With a salute, a pair of officers quickly untied the man and - taking care to avoid staining their shirts with the copious amount of blood trickling from his back - unceremoniously dragged him away for medical attention. He would survive, Zhao surmised, though the vicious lacerations inflicted by the glass and bone-studded whips used in the punishment would scar him permanently.

The advancing column of Gondorian Panthers from the 1st Gondor Armored peaked his interest as the approached. Solidly built and incorporating the latest twenty-first century advances in laminate armor, active defense systems and targeting equipment, Gondor’s fifty-five tonne behemoth easily dwarfed the Khanate’s Kipchak and Korchin tanks by at least fifteen tonnes in full battle kit, standing almost half a meter taller as well.

He bit his lip thoughtfully. Though derived from older designs dating from 1949 and 1964, the Golden Horde’s constant improvements and enhancement to the T-55 and T-64 models had produced extremely reliable and combat-effective vehicles capable of being mass produced in significant number. Deceptively capable, both the Kipchak and Korchin had proved their effectiveness in half a dozen conflicts since the mid 1950’s, earning the reputation of being highly mobile and easy to repair in the field.

“Hail, Gondor.” He waved down the lead tank’s driver. Within half a second, the tank’s commander popped up from the turret.

“Brigadier General Zhao Li-Kung, 1st Armored Division. We’re happy to have you all here today and look forward to drills. We’ve already taken the liberty of preparing temporary barracks for your men not too far from our current position.”

The tank commander popped up out from the turret, and look down to see the man standing in front of his massive tank. He heard the man state his name and rank, and immediately realized that he was speaking with an officer of quite a higher rank than he. He bowed, as was customary to when when speaking to a CO, and responded in kind.

"Greetings, Brigadier General Zhao Ki-Lung. I am First Lieutenant Kyoto Kenji of the First Amored Division of the Gondorian Royal Army. I thank you for your hospitality and for allowing us to come here for drills, sir. The Gondorian 1st Armored looks forward to testing our combat skills alongside that of the Golden Horde. If you will allow us, sir, we would like to begin setting up our camps, checking our tanks, and getting the evening meal in order." The many tanks began to one by one find a place to park in areas that had been pre-determined by their hosts.

The Panthers were first checked by their crews to ensure that they were in working and efficient order, with each tank commander barking orders to make sure that everything was spick and span, per Gondorian Royal Army standards. With all the latest technologies, armors, fire controls, and defense systems, the gargantuan war machines weren't nearly as mobile as the Khanate T-55 and T-64 tanks. But what they lacked in mobility, they made up for in firepower and armored protection. The only cuandry was that Gondor's military hadn't seen combat in years, whereas the Golden Horde had, and had won most of the conflicts they had fought in.

Once the troops and tanks had settled in for the evening, the Commander of the First Armored, Brigadier General Haas Hygo made his way to where Brigadier General Zhao Li-Kung was and introduced himself.

"Greetings, Brigadier General Zhao Li-Kung. I am Brigadier General Haas Hygo, Commander of the Gondorian Royal First Armored. My men and I are excited to be here and looking forward to testing the mettle of our forces. These excersies are very important to the Crown, due to the fact that Gondor's Army hasn't seen combat in nigh on two decades. While our military is up to modern standards, our equipment is of no use to us if we cannot utilize it correctly. That being said, our training is very rigid, but it's time for these maggots to see what real combat would be like. What drills would you have us do first?"

“The first drills will be small unit maneuvers aimed at familiarizing your forces with our equipment, our tactics and our strategic doctrine. An unfortunate cost of existing as a large dominion with a multitude of different ethnic groups is the inevitability of conflict. As such, we - the Khanate - have engaged in no less than six large scale conflicts in since the mid 1950’s and half a dozen more minor ‘civil disturbances’ involving insurrectionist groups, drug traffickers and tribal warlords throughout our lands.”

“As such, the Golden Horde has trained extensively in both high intensity operations and unconventional ‘asymmetric warfare’. In conjunction with the Khanate Paramilitary Police forces (KPP), our strategic doctrine is one focused on bringing overwhelming force and firepower to bear on our enemy during conventional conflicts - evident in our use of equipment and armor.”

“For ‘dirty wars’, we utilizing the KPP to effectively maintain force of presence in contested regions with the Golden Horde reacting to disturbances in the fog of war with relentless heli-borne offensives paired with area of effect air strikes.”

“Our first drill with see company level cooperation between Gondor and Khanate tanks in a series of maneuvers cross country and in the urban setting. Odessizka is a fairly temperate region with thick woodlands and difficult rains during the cool season.”

“This is the cool season and as such we can expect heavy rains turning much of the countryside into thick mud. Drills will put Gondor 1st Armored’s Panthers alongside our Kipchak and Korchin tanks, long standing designs which have served us for decades.”

“Though targets will be positioned at several locations along the tanks’ path, it will be up to both Khanate and Gondor officers to navigate through three hundred kilometers of countryside for the next three days. Maintenance will be limited only to the tools, fuel and spare components each tank can carry on a typical ‘emergency field deployment’.”

“Our strategic doctrine uses our Kipchak T-55AGMs and Korchin T-64s to continually maneuver through territory regardless of how difficult and unforgiving circumstances can be. Though many of our tanks - the T55AGM in particular - have noticeably less armor and active countermeasures than modern contemporaries, our focus on improving reliability, endurance and maneuverability gives them an edge in maneuver warfare. The bulk of effort has been directed towards constantly increasing gun performance and engine power/versatility. Our tanks utilize a twelve cylinder Khraznin engine capable of using diesel, gasoline, kerosene or even any mix of the above during emergency situations.”

“Once Gondor’s Special Forces division arrives, they will be paired with the air assault component of the Golden Horde’s 1st Armored Division and undergo small unit tactics training with them. Our goal at the end of the second week is to begin war games incorporating the GH 2nd ‘Guards’ Armor Division and the regional KPP to act as opposing forces to the Khanate 1st Armor and Gondorian contingent in live fire exercises using dummy rounds.”

"Gondor's black panthers may be heavier than their Khanate counterparts, but it still has a decent speed and maneuverability, with a lot of firepower and armor to boot. These tanks are built for rough terrain, so our men will gladly test their skills alongside those of the Golden Horde. Our crews will be vigilant along their path and utilize what has been provided to them. We hope to learn how to more efficiently fight assymetrical warfare in the ever growing and changing battlefield of the modern world. We are glad that we haven't seen much conflict over the last half century, but that is soon to end, I think. The West is readying itself for war-as should we if we are to preserve our common culture and way of life."

"As to the special forces, they will primarily be using light armor such as APCs and IFVs to achieve their objectives, with a few tanks mixed in here and there. The live fire excersies will be useful for sharpening our force's battle readiness. This will teach us what it is like to go in for quick yet effective attacks that get the job done."

"The Special Forces arrive at first light, so I will imagine drills will begin then? It is up to you, friend. We will follow your lead and get ready to begin in earnest this joint excersise."
