UNITED MORELAND ESCAPES THE BOX

Posted Image

After several weeks of tense negotiation the Zimalian city of Moubessa will become part of United Moreland for at least the next 150 years. Foreign Minister Piper MacKenna travelled to the city to meet with Zimalian President Binyamin Elwes about a lease which would mean that the encirclement of Moreland island by an outlying archipelago is over. The encirclement has been often refered to as "The Box" and Queen Alison has long been an advocate of United escaping the situation somehow. Speaking at a ceremony to raise the United Moreland flag above the city, which along with its associated area will be refereed to as Port Moreland, the Queen made a speech.

Speech of Queen Alison

Today I am proud to announce that after mutually benefical negotiations with President Elwes we will be able to establish a United Moreland presence here. The deal we have struck sees the Zimalian people benefit financially, some years ago they began building this city in hopes of drawing people away from the overcrowded Mogebbe, however this did not work. Now with the backing of United Moreland those handful of people living here will soon see their blossoming city flourish. Over the coming months we will be investing in completing some of the building work, we will be establishing schools and public services, things that have been lacking so far. Meanwhile the money we have paid as a lease will help the wider population enjoy a higher standard of life. I am pleased to say that unlike some nations we have been able to expand our territory for the good of our people without making enemies and without a single drop of blood being spilt.

One of the first facilities to be finished will be the deep sea port which is likely to include a large naval base. Meanwhile incentives are expected to be offered to bring in multi-national companies in order to create jobs and boost the economy. The Queen also announced that the Naval facility there would be named HMSF MacKenna after the Foreign Minister Piper MacKenna who completed the deal on behalf of the nation.

ROYAL NAVY TO GET NEW VESSEL

As the Ministry of Defence undertake its annual review it has been announced already that the Navy will be getting a new class of vessel. The Frigate known at the moment as the X-Sword. Due to be built by Moreports the vessel will feature a dual propulsion system of a conventional engine and an electric drive which can be charged while at sea. Meanwhile the ship will feature a 20 VLS missile system capable of firing both SSM and SAM. The ship also features a large calibre naval gun in a stealth style body with two torpedo tubes. The first vessel is to be named HMS Moubessa, after the latest territorial acquisition, a move that is considered to also be to make the new area feel part of the nation.

The MoD is likely to announce several new projects over the next few days, including an announcement regarding missile defence, a new land patrol vehicle and possibly a new helicopter for the army.

PRINCE ROBERT TO MARRY

Posted Image

The current heir to the United Moreland throne, Prince Robert Cullen, is set to marry Duchess Orliath Ó Dubhshláine's of Braide in a ceremony in Limalk in the Teutonic Union. The couple meet a year ago at the Highland Games in Braide when the Prince represented United Moreland as a gesture of friendship towards the Union. The pair apparently meet while the Prince was trying to understand several of the games and the Duchess acted as his guide. Soon after Duchess Orlaith changed her degree from Limalk to Lancaster in order to spend more time with the Prince and the two announced their engagement a few weeks ago.

It is understood that Prince Robert followed the Braide tradition of asking the families permission before being sent to see Emperor Hans to gain his blessing. At the time of the engagment being announced Robert said, "I essentially had to ask three people if I could marry before I even got to propose to Orlaith, I don't know which time made me more nervous. I'm just glad that we can finally begin life together soon as a married couple."

Queen Alison has already announced that Orlaith will be granted the title of Princess of United Moreland, as well as being made Countess of Breasdale. The marriage will also mean that Robert will become Duke of Braide and will one day become Prince of the Principality which Orlaith will rule. At the moment it could potentially see Briade and United Moreland united, an arrangement which could become complex due to Braide's arrangement as part of the Teutonic Union. Robert addressed this saying, "Maybe 500 years ago the cynical would say this is a marriage of territorial ambition, not true in our case, this is love. I know one day my sister the Queen will marry and become a mother, I'll therefore be happy to carve out a career for myself and one day in the far future help Orlaith in her own royal duties."
