![]() UNITED MORELAND ESCAPES THE BOX ![]() After several weeks of tense negotiation the Zimalian city of Moubessa will become part of United Moreland for at least the next 150 years. Foreign Minister Piper MacKenna travelled to the city to meet with Zimalian President Binyamin Elwes about a lease which would mean that the encirclement of Moreland island by an outlying archipelago is over. The encirclement has been often refered to as "The Box" and Queen Alison has long been an advocate of United escaping the situation somehow. Speaking at a ceremony to raise the United Moreland flag above the city, which along with its associated area will be refereed to as Port Moreland, the Queen made a speech.
One of the first facilities to be finished will be the deep sea port which is likely to include a large naval base. Meanwhile incentives are expected to be offered to bring in multi-national companies in order to create jobs and boost the economy. The Queen also announced that the Naval facility there would be named HMSF MacKenna after the Foreign Minister Piper MacKenna who completed the deal on behalf of the nation. ![]() ROYAL NAVY TO GET NEW VESSEL As the Ministry of Defence undertake its annual review it has been announced already that the Navy will be getting a new class of vessel. The Frigate known at the moment as the X-Sword. Due to be built by Moreports the vessel will feature a dual propulsion system of a conventional engine and an electric drive which can be charged while at sea. Meanwhile the ship will feature a 20 VLS missile system capable of firing both SSM and SAM. The ship also features a large calibre naval gun in a stealth style body with two torpedo tubes. The first vessel is to be named HMS Moubessa, after the latest territorial acquisition, a move that is considered to also be to make the new area feel part of the nation. The MoD is likely to announce several new projects over the next few days, including an announcement regarding missile defence, a new land patrol vehicle and possibly a new helicopter for the army. ![]() UNITED MORELAND AND VINITSIA ANNOUNCE PROJECT ![]() Following Day 2 of the United Moreland Minstry of Defence's annual review it was announced that a joint project with Vinitsia is underway to build a missile defence system. The Multi Kill Vehicle Defence System (MKVDS) will begin trials shortly and is likely to be accompanied by a series of tracking stations. The system would see a carrier vehicle attached to a large missile that would be launched from a silo and move to intercept any incoming ICBM's at high altitude. The carrier vehicle would, when close to the target, fire up to 20 "kill vehicles" these smaller projectiles would then take out the incoming missile and any decoys ensuring the safety of the nation that launched it. The project is likely to begin tests of the carrier vehicle shortly, as this is simply a modified ICBM itself. The Launch vehicle is currently undergoing lab tests both in Lancaster and Vinitsia ready for testing in a live situation later in the year. The project marks the first collaboration between United Moreland and Vinitsia in terms of military projects. The two nations signed a trade deal late last year. |

![]() MKVDS PASSES HOVER TEST ![]() It was announced today that the "Kill Vehicle" to be used in the missile defence system known as the Multiple Kill Vehicle Defence System successfully passed its Hover test. The small half a meter long projectile will be one of twenty launched that would puncture the skin of an incoming missile and then detonate destroying the threat. The Kill Vehicle will be required to hover in front of an incoming missile while still at high altitude before moving in for the kill. The test took place at a classified location however video footage was released showing the "Kill Vehicle" inside a large reinforced cage where it lifted off before hovering for twenty seconds before it lowered itself to the ground. Speaking outside the Ministry of Defence General Simonsen of the High Command Council confirmed he had witnessed the test before adding. "This has been one of the major hurdles of this project. We have seen today the combined genius of Vinistia and United Moreland have over come this problem, it is now likely that in the next week or so this will begin testing to see if it will work in a real life situation." It is likely the first tests will take place in the coming weeks as several United Moreland Naval Frigates have headed out from Port Moreland to the sea in order to monitor the tests. ![]() HMS SHARPE HEADS TOWARDS JAPAO Following escalations in tensions between the several nations around the small nation of Japao several Khanate and Japao aricraft have been shot down. ![]() LAUNCH VEHICLE TEST SUCCESSFUL ![]() A test launch of the latest stage of the MKVDS today was announced as a success. A single Launch Vehicle was fired from Stonebroom Proving Grounds, it climbed to a height of 1,500km before being self destructed over the ocean. A Ministry of Defence spokesman said; "We've been very happy with the development of the MKVDS, this test is the first of three we have in the pipeline, the next will be a test of the Launch Vehicle with a MKV attached, we will then launch this from the Launch Vehicle, the final test will take place from Port Moreland and will see a dummy enemy missile be targeted. Should all three tests go without issue we hope to start rolling out the system straight away." The project is a joint development with Vinitsia who had several members of their military in attendance during the test. The manufacture of the completed system is expected to be split between the two nations helping secure a wide variety of jobs in highly technical fields. General Brinkthorpe was one of the members of the United Moreland Army witnessing the test and said, "The boffins clearly have a flair for the dramatic, making the launch at sunset made it rather pretty and the fact that the thing worked exactly as we'd hoped made it even more worth while. It is our hope further tests are as successful and the long term defence of our island home and Port Moreland is assured. We are also very happy to work with our trading partner Vinitsia on a project that will benefit both our nations technological sectors as well as securing their defence." |

![]() MISSILE DEFENCE SYSTEM "ONE STEP AWAY" ![]() Following the successful test launch of the MKV Carrier Vehicle and separation of all stages the Ministry of Defence stated that the system, which is yet to be given an official name, is "One step away" from success. Speaking at the Morton test site, where they were joined by members of the Vinitsian partnership that has developed this system, General Brinkthorpe said, "It's now clear that were one step away from having an effective system that can be operational. We have a scheduled test in the next day or two which will see a dummy missile launched and hopefully intercepted by the system. Should it succeed there will obviously be some fine tuning but I am confident that the system can be in place rather quickly." The precise date and time of the final test has not been announced but with tensions in the southern hemisphere still at a high point it is likely the Vinitsians will push for a speedy completion. PRINCE ROBERT ANNOUNCES INVESTIGATION RESULTS ![]() Prince Robert today announced that the air crash investigation into the shooting down of a pair of Khanate MiG's by Japao has been released. The report was part of a series of measures that the serving Air Force Flight Lieutenant called for as part of a series of actions intended to reduce tensions between the Khanate and Japao. The Prince is a maritime patrol pilot who was cross-training with the Navy onboard HMS Sharpe when the shoot down occured and the vessel was mvoed to the region to act as mediators. The Prince also formed part of the panel which helped with the investigation, adding his experience as an Air Force pilot to the skills of the crash investigation team. In announcing the reports findings Prince Robert said, "I believe the data and evidence supports the hypothesis many in the aviation community had before hand, that this was a disaster waiting to happen with two air forces stuck in the middle of diplomatic tensions. Sadly the loss of life was in our view avoidable if both nations had taken actions different to those of the day. Now we have a conclusion from a neutral nation we need to continue to try and reduce the heat in the area, I would be more than willing to work with both Japao and the Khanate to ensure situations such as the shoot down do not occur again and further loss of life can be avoided. United Moreland is a nation dedicated to try and ensure global stability, we have no vested interests in the region, we have a friendly relation with Vinitsia who I know feel close to the Japao side of the conflict, meanwhile my sister recently meet with the Khan and I know she considered the meeting a success, I believe this places us in a firmly neutral stance and therefore gives us the ability to work with both nations with clear sights." ROYAL LANCASTRIAN PENSIONERS RECRUIT FIRST FEMALE RESIDENTS ![]() The Royal Lancastrian Regiment is the nations most recognisable military unit, the bright red jackets a throw back to the uniform instigated by the nations great hero Joseph Cullen. Equally recognisable is the Royal Lancastrian Hospital, a haven for those veterans wishing to maintain there connection to the unit. The Hospital was established in 1800 by then then King Joseph Cullen to care for the veterans of his campaigns, those offered places give up the majority of their military pension in return for accommodation, meals and utilities for the rest of their life. The Hospital contains 100 bedrooms in which those veterans who are accepted live. Today the Hospital announced that Warrant Officer Madeline Campbell and Sergeant Rose Swinfield had been offered accommodation making them the first women members. WO Campbell, aged 80, was a member of the Regiment from the age of 18 until retiring at the age of 40, she said; "I've always been proud of my red jacket and it hung in a frame in my house, however my knees and hips are going and I don't want to be a burden on my family, here I get the care I need, surrounded by comrades who I share a unbreakable bond with. They look after us and we feel we have a purpose, we go into schools to speak to students, we attend events and represent the Regiment I love." Meanwhile Sgt. Swinfield said; "As Lancastrians we always feel like part of the Regiment, but to once again have inspections, a uniform to keep clean and orders to follow it makes life simple again. I have a son who now has his own family and I don;t want them to think of me as a little old lady in need of care, now with my red coat back on I know they'll be proud of me." |

![]() MISSILE DEFENCE SYSTEM IS GO ![]() Following a lengthy testing process the joint United Moreland and Vinitsian ICBM Defence System has been declared ready for installation. The missile today passed the final testing hurdle when it destroyed a dummy ICBM launched from a United Moreland Navy Submarine. The Multiple Kill Vehicle System detected an incoming missile and launched a carrier vehicle which then released its "Kill Vehicles" which destroyed the dummy ICBM. The test now means that the system can become operational as soon as the system can be installed. Queen Alison witnessed the test which unlike the others was not attended by the press, speaking later that day the Queen stated; "With the situation in the Southern Hemisphere and with Puerto Andino announcing an intention to go nuclear it shows the offensive arms race is still alive and well sadly. As such it is necessary for nations desiring peace to be able to defend themselves. It is my hope this system can be effectively in place shortly offering full protection to the island of Moreland and Port Moreland. It has been superb to work with our Vinitsian partners and I'm very happy with the results, we will certainly explore future co-operations in this field and hopefully more peace orientated endeavours." PRINCE MAKES FRIENDS AT MORHEIM GAMES ![]() Prince Robert has been using his military leave to attend the Morheim Highland Games where he has been spotted in the company of a Duchess from the Teutonic Union. The Prince has been busy working off HMS Sharpe and has helped carry out a recent investigation into Khanate and Japao incidents in disputed airspace. He had been scheduled for leave however the investigation postponed this. The Prince is a keen sports fan and was said to have been "delighted to experience a sporting event on this scale." The United Moreland Celtic community also entered a team which Prince Robert has been cheering on, so far the team lie in joint 1st place with the hosts from the McFarland clan. The Prince however has been spotted enjoying drinks with Duchess Orlaith from Braide in the Teutonic Union. Royal Press Secretary Malcolm Tucker however said, "The Prince is on holiday, who he chooses to enjoy a drink with is his own business, he's merely there to let his hair down, support the Morelanders competing in the games and did a bit of soft diplomacy. The Prince is and always has been a credit to our nation and the fact he has chosen to use his leave to represent the nation at a cultural event in a potential friends nation is a testimony to his dedication to his nation." |

![]() MONARCHS LEAGUE FORMED ![]() ![]() ![]() Today the Kingdom of United Moreland signed a formal treaty with the Teutonic Union and the Queendom of Morheim to create the Monarch's League, a multi-functional international organisation that intends to bring economic prosperity and security stability to the nation. The Queen was joined in a signing ceremony at Lancaster Palace by her royal counterparts Emperor Hans of the Teutonic Union and Queen Sonia of Morheim. The League now means that the nation will work with the others to resolve international issues peacefully while also sharing criminal intelligence, military exercises, cultural exchanges as well as sporting and scientific events. In addition to the League being formed the Queen is due to become host of a permanent envoy of the Union and Morheim who shall take up residency inside the palace, a throw back to the Medievel Period. Speaking following the signing the Queen said; "I am excited about the future of this organisation, we now have the formation of an organisation that truly wishes to solve the world's issues peacefully and before they get out of hand. We look forward to sharing in some amazing projects, Queen Sonia's nation already have been voicing potential projects to do with space exploration and these certainly have my interest. In addition we can now use the League as a platform for wider issues on the planet and I hope our delegates, whoever they shall be, ensure that the full potential of the League is harnessed. It is my deep rooted belief that the signing of the Treaty today leaves the world in a better place and it is my hope that in the coming days and weeks other nations of Audaxia take a look at this charter and apply for membership." The Queen did however point out, "Our citizens need not worry as we shall do all we can to ensure that the League is an organisation where membership means something, where members are held to the highest ethical accounts." It is expected that the Emperor and Queen Sonia will remain in Lancaster for a few days before returning home in order to see if there is any initial interest and deal with applications until the League's Council is established. Many speculators believe that Queen Alison will appoint one of her two sisters to the position of the Kingdoms delegate with many believing Princess Anna will be the most likely choice. |
